XM Radio good riddance

This may not be technically demanding but when my XM trial subscription ended Friday I assumed XM and the default to XM radio would go away. Instead when I press SOURCE it still defaults to XM but now XM has only the blather advertizing signing up for XM.

I'm hoping I can change it myself somehow or ,as a last resort, have the dealer disable XM or at the very least put anything else on but XM as a default when source it pressed.

Does anyone else have this issue and is there a solution short of immediately pressing the mute button?

Thanks.

Hope I didn't creat a duplicate thread

You can configure the source list to skip certain functions as you cycle through. I have mine skip AM because I never listen to it. When the XM subscription runs out I plan to omit that as well, though I don't remember exactly how to configure it right now.

Probably under the "config" menu (config button on the center stack) and audio system preferences.

you can get XM for $25 (6 months service) which to me was a no brainer. Just call and ask them for the 6 month $25 special

Gee, I really like it. I never thought that I would see the day when I would pay to listen to the radio, but I got hooked on it and wouldn't be without it now. I always joke that the teaser subscription is like giving out free samples of dope, LOL.

While I appreciate those that suggested how to get back on XM this wasn't my goal. I pretty much do all my driving in metro Denver which has decent radio stations. When that isn't available CDs work just fine.

The Volt adviser suggested pressing SOURCE twice which will indeed move it from the default of XM but doesn't get rid of it entirely. This not unlike having to press SPORT mode each time you start the car with the default being just drive mode.

So unless a wise technically capable member can advise me how to set the default to CD or FM it seems like I am stuck with XM for the life of the car.

OK, I tinkered with my car this morning and I hope this helps.

Boot up the car.

Press the "config" button on the center stack.

Choose "Home Page Options"

You can then select which items will appear on your home page. You can then omit the XM button.

That mod removes XM from the home screen but I'm not sure about when cycling through the sources via the steering wheel controls. That removal is possible too, as I've done it with AM, but I'm not sure if this trick will accomplish that.

If not, post here and I'll dig deeper to try and figure out how I managed that. Don't wanna miss out on free beer!

Really sorry to dig up an old thread, but i am trying to do this right now and cant figure it out either. Is there a way to program the source button on the steering wheel to skip over XM and AM like it says here?

I have XM because its built into the radio. No plugging in anything, or messing with my phone.... It's right there ready to go.

I don't miss the XM much with a pair of 32G usb sticks added to the entertainment system.

LOL... I haven't seen this. In fact, my experience has been very different from what others have said. I am a long time XM subscriber but since getting my new Volt I have been on the 3 month freebie. I have received a couple expiration notices in the mail but no phone calls. Today my XM trial finally expired and all my stations are "unauthorized". Still no calls. I was hoping to leverage their apparent subscriber retention aggressiveness to my advantage but I guess now I'll have to call them and see if I can work a deal. Sheesh.

The $25.00 may be gone, but you can still get a good deal on another package. Call them back and ask select "cancel" from the recorded menu. I have had good luck talking to people in this department, and ONLY this department. After you tell them you want to cancel, ask if they have anything they can do to keep you as a subscriber....I have been doing this since 2009, and they have always responded with a much better offer than the regular subscription.

I received a $25/6 mo offer in the mail a week or so ago. I liked XM Ok, but couldn't be bothered...chunked it. It was even active for a year on my Volt for free (who knows why). Frankly, all the horror stories I've heard with cancellations had me shying away from them. I do wish I had bluetooth streaming with on screen display and song control.

Back before my Prius and then my Volt both with the Bluetooth streaming (which I would not have bought the Volt without "Deal Killer") I used to call and tell them I wanted the $77 deal for a year subscription. Worked for 3 years with my Pontiac G6. That was their best deal at the time and you didn't have to deal with again for a year. Don't know if they still have that or not but they NEVER advertised it just call and ask in the cancellation department for that deal.

Yeah, they're on to this deal. I had to talk to them yesterday and after 20 mins on the phone with first person in India or wherever, then I got connected to a supervisor, and then I got connected to the cancellation department. The best they would offer was $20 for four months. Now I get to do this whole thing again in August. If they won't give me a good 6 month or 12 month deal, I'm done with them.
