Looks nice but I'm sad to see the look has strayed SO much from the original concept. To me, it now resembles every other car on the road. I like to drive a car that immediately is recognizable even without the nameplate. Maybe I'll be more impressed when I see it in person.

I too am disappointed that GM took what was shaping up to be a great looking concept car and turned it into a pseudo-Prius. Poor job GM. Is it too much to ask for some styling while helping to reduce our dependence on foreign oil? I guess so. {:-(

Gm failed. Looks like a prius. Malibu is nicer looking!

Orca fat Prius v2.0. (Damn chunky battery packs). Hopefully Tesla etc. will do something mid-range and skinnier.

Dear GM Executives - WAKE UP!!! Style matters!!! I realize the technological hurdles were/are significant, but without style, it's just another Pontiac Aztec. Please reconsider the design.

We were really excited about the VOLT; couldn't stop talking about it. This is disappointing. You would think that if they are struggling with the aerodynamics that they would keep the design and incorporate some kind of low drag wind turbines that generate power the faster the vehicle moves. If it is because they want to slow production, then I believe they've achieved their goal.

Folks, I understand the need for good style. But it is hard to make a four person car; four door car for the American family; and still obey the harsh master of aerodynamics. If the power train is a success, there will be plenty of time to come out with varying models. And need2fly, turbines on the car would be perpetual motion. That no worky.

Well for the all comments of disappointment I have to say I like the car. I don't think I love the look yet, but I'm pretty sure the pictures don't do it justice compared to real thing. It looks like a cross between a Civic, CRX, and maybe a bit Prius, depending on the angle you look at it from, but it is still it's own look. I know if I see one driving down the road that I KNOW it's a Volt and that matters to me. People who are disappointed it doesn't look like the concept. Well come on ... the thing has to push through the air and if the concept is not aerodynamic enough than it's pointless to wish for the concept!

Come on guys. At this stage generic is a good thing. So what if it looks like a malibu/camry/civic people-mover. This car is about proving the eflex concept. Making it a basic sedan will give it broader appeal. We've already heard that they have additional models in production, which will likely be available soon after the volt reaches significant production levels. Look for your sports car, cute-ute, and light pickup models then. At the very least it looks way better than a prius, which is all anyone should be asking for at this stage. ...but I'd still want one if it looked like an AMC pacer.

What's with the fake grill? Dare to be different. Way too conservative, and they better stand out as Toyota, Volvo and others will be breathing down their neck. Let designers create then let the engineers make it work vs the easy way. Overall it is OK but that is all. Suggestion from a northerner that would be a plus. A timed interior plug in heater or AC that would kick on before you drive to and from work. Simple advantage you got the plug ya know. Maybe add a loud speaker that makes the car sound like a piped Harley for those who miss the beef. Hee hee. Go for it Detroit it is cold there dont ya know. I hope they also allow bigger add on batteries you can put in and take out if you do not need truck space, my cell phone has that. Get it done there is still time. Cant wait and I have the cash for the car.

I am so disappointed...First the price has gone from about $20,000 to $35,000....and now it looks like a prius....I guess the rich elitist tree huggers will love this car but the common man cannot afford it......I admire Chevy for trying but I see this as another failure unless things change....It cost to much...even at $5 a gallon $15,000 will buy a lot of gas.

I have to agree with disappointment. Although, my main reason for interest in a car such as this is environmental, I was truly looking forward to something classy and unique. Fuel or electric, cars are becoming so blasé as if they all came from the same mold. I want something that will entice me and represent my playfulness. I will wait then for the more innovative design.

I'm a little disappointed at the look of the exterior. It didn't have to be extravagent, but a unique look that would have been nice. It is different enough, I guess, but couldn't they have hired some apple infuenced designer that values form somewhat to function. One of the things that separates the Prius from the rest of the Toyota line is that it does look dramatically different than the rest of their models. It looks functionally futuristic.

Way to go GM A functional Usable electric car that seats 4 and looks to have enough room for a car seat in the Back.... I am getting in line for this 1

I like it. I think it looks more like the newest Malibu more than any other car. Though the interior is a bit over-done. Personally I wonder, why only the Volt? If this power train is so good, why not put it in more GM cars? It'd be awesome in the HHR I think.

manunderyourbed wrote...
It is ugly... I understand the regrets of the failing wind-tunnel tests, but come on ... would it have been that hard to slightly alter the design? How about making the Volt, the electric Camaro? With the way gas prices are heading, switch the guts and let the Volt have it. Make it out of fiber-glass, carbon fiber, something... not just an all too typical stepped-on jelly bean design.

Completely disappointed....all the buzz around the 2 door coupe concept had me ready to stand in line to buy one. Not anymore. Just another 4 door econobox with a drab exterior. Chevy totally blew it. A for the up to $35K projected price, you gotta be kidding me! The Japanese will continue to step all over the U.S. manufacturers. This could have been a total home run, but..... The technology is awesome and the interior even has an interesting look, but I will not been seen putzing around with an exterior as lame as that. I'll just by another Maxima and deal with worse mileage - at least I'll have a first rate performing car that looks real sharp to boot!

I was certain that the Volt was the next and First NEW car I was going to buy. Now with the new version I have no real love for the outward appearence. To me it now looks like every other car in th GM line up. Personally all the appeal is gone. I'd rather drive my 91 beretta at least it looks and sounds Great.

Most here are dissapointed too... I work at the Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly plant where the Volt is to be built. We all were blown away with the original design and concept behind this new vehicle, then we saw what G.M. decided to do with the design and very few are excited! We are happy to have a new product, but are tired of appologizing to everyone for this horrible version of the Volt.....On the up side, they say in a few years a sportier model will be available. By that time the rest of the auto industry will be light years ahead of us AGAIN!!!!!

Chevy - Take a hint from Mopar... The 2009 Challenger has the styling of old muscle cars but refined. And people are lined up around the building to buy them. Regardless of gas mileage (although it is 25mpg) The "Concept" VOLT was exciting and would have given credibility to GM for producing a leading edge car WITH leading edge design. The concept and the production are way apart. I agree with the others, chevy's Prius will be a nice car but it will be lost in the smoke of EVERY manufacturers new doo. There are people who buy a car to get from point A to B, and they will do it cheaper with volt. (or any other electirc/Hyd/FC/etc.) But people who want the benefits of electric in a car that will turn heads, bring thumbs up at stop lights and get photographed from cellphones by passerbys... well they just will NOT buy the standard look that GM is just repeating. STYLE DOES MATTER. If the production stays the way these photos look, well take me off the list. I can buy a Prius today, cheaper and with a track record. I just could not handle looking at something so ugly every morning. I loved the VOLT concept car... So close to becoming the GM of my youth. BTW. Don't believe me? Here is what Chrysler will be bringing to the competition. www.chryslerllc.com/en/innovation/envi/specs/dodge_vehicl... www.chryslerllc.com/en/innovation/envi/specs/jeep_vehicle... www.chryslerllc.com/en/innovation/envi/specs/chrysler_veh... GM reconsider while you still can !!!

This has become typical of GM. They have the ability to make something amazing, yet they stick their tail between their legs and fall back on what their market studies tell them (how'd that work out for you in the last 20 years GM??) So I believe this concept of the volt is necessary, but it should have been in addition to, not a replacement for the original volt. Once again, FAIL. GM reminds me of a bad version of Microsoft, always playing catch up and lacking style in a big way, but unfortunately with much more competition, and no strangle hold an any market. GM effectively missed the boat on bridging the gap between hip style and ecological responsibility. What is GM going to do when Toyota introduces a hybrid or full EV Celica or FT-HS? Looks like once again, I'll be looking at GM's competition for an answer to my automobile needs.

Personally I didn't like the concept design much... Now for me I like the way this production version looks, much better IMO, however, design isn't everything and to all those who only care about looks well you're all idiots... The car needs to have every inch of it aerodynamic in order to get the promised millage... if we stuck with the concept we may have lost 20% of those mpgs. This car is all about the technology not the design... who knows maybe in a few years once this technology takes off and has gotten plenty of improvements we may see a car closer to your beloved concept >.>

In my opinion, if you compare the original concept of the Volt with this 2011 Volt you can clearly see why, how, and should GM will never be successful again. They suck the "COOL" out of everything and have failed to produce a car that has Great gas Millage (or non) that people would be proud of driving. This volt (or Should I say Prius) is a nail in the coffin for GM. What should have been a sign of their rebirth is an example of why the should die. If you want a super Fuel Efficient "green Car" Go buy a VW Jetta Diesel, and stop pretending that Hybrids are the answer to Global Warming and Look at the fact the MPG are a fixed number weather its 100% combustion engine or electric motor assist 40 mpg is 40 mpgs. Oh yeah and diesel engines don't have batteries that are more damaging to the environment then Carbon emission will ever be. All that said, I am a huge support of Electric cars, Can anyone say Tesla?
