JAPS:

Honda:
2009 Honda City

2003-2008 Third generation (JDM model) Honda Odyssey Modulo Concept Car - looks like an 8th Generation Honda Civic hatch back or station wagon and 1986 Pontiac Trans Sport Concept - AKA GM-200 project - 90-93 Pontiac Trans Sport, Chevrolet Lumina APV, and Oldsmobile Silhouette Van - the tops of the head lamps grill are level with each other reminds me a little of the 2nd Gen (1992–1997) Mercury Grand Marquis with the nose cut short, almost completely smoothed out with a tapered hood or flared fenders.

2006-2007 Honda Civic - 8th Generation -
+ (Pluses)
1 Vertical Door Levers design- like the ones on the Honda Civic Type R
2 All around shape
3 Grill and Head Lamps design - The absence of having the body separate the grill from the head lamps (not all 8th Gen variations are like this, but I did see the Si with this configuration)- it looks like the grill and head lamps are sitting in an air vent of a super charger - Nissan did something like this with it's 2001 350Z vertical signal lights
4 Dashboard with digital instrument cluster
5 The way the window shield looks like it's slopping down under the edge of the hood. To me it's a take it or leave it

2006 Honda FCX Concept
2008 Honda Insight Concept

Kia:
2008 Kia KOUP Concept

Mitsubishi:
2005 Mitsubishi D5 concept van - DELICA D:5(CV5W) - looks a little like the 2nd Gen Chevy Astro and GMC Safari mini vans
2001-2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse
A1996–2003 (8th generation) Mitsubishi Galant - also called Legnum and Aspire

Nissan:
2001-2009 Nissan 350Z - vertical signal lights

Just for kicks:
1991 GMC Syclone turbo
1992-1993 GMC Typhoon - was a high-performance version of the GMC Jimmy SUV - based on the 1991 GMC Jimmy SUV.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GMC_Syclone
Both the Syclone and Typhoon (SyTy) trucks featured a Mitsubishi TD06-17C 8 cm² turbocharger[1] and Garrett water/air intercooler attached to a 4.3 L LB4 V6 engine with unique pistons, main caps, head gaskets, intake manifolds, fuel system, exhaust manifolds, and a 48mm twin bore throttle body from the 5.7 L GM Small-Block engine.

One design I disagree with is the way that the new Pontiac Montana SV6/ Chevy Uplander head lamps are shaped, with the top part of visible. It's like the lamp is violating the fenders spaces. It's like there are people in the company that want GM to go out of busniess.

Buick Grand National Commercial - nice level reflections from the sides, it has that solid look, no loose wavy lines - that makes a vehicle look like the car has sides made of cloth or like its' sides are flapping in the wind like fat, it has a very tense muscular design - If you have a wavy sides panels the air will be sucked in and press in on the car - You want the air to slide pass and push in on it's self or make it push in on the back as it leaves the vehicle - the funny thing is when you slow down I think it sucks the car back a little. Maybe GM should use sensors under the models to see if there are any forces pushing it back as they reduce wind speed in the air tunnel

I prefer mechanical meters verses LCD, LCD as a backup display indicator or vice versa.

You do realize that most of the "mechanical meters" are just electrically-driven movements, right? It's ultimately all electronic in nature . . .

What about the mechanical meters do you prefer over LCD or other digital readouts? Would a bargraph-type display give you what you want?

The design that Nicola Tesla invented.

U.S. Patent 1,274,816 - Speed Indicator - 1918 August 6 - Speedometer that possesses the feature of: Linearly proportional torque readings; Strong low speed torsional effects; not affected by atmospheric density, temperature, nor magnetic influences; Rugged; Simple; Economical.

Speed Indicator Nicola Tesla Style

It uses a rotatable aluminum cup or plate with a magnet attached to a rotatable shaft, the shaft is attached to a axially rotatable cable that is inside a sleeve that is connected to the axis of a small gear that is connected to a shaft in-side a part connected to the transmission (drivetrain - I think) . Eddy-currents force the aluminum to move in the same direction as the magnets axial rotation; in turn forcing the needle to shift its axis from its sprial hair or flat spring anchored position.

Yes, I know newer speedometers don't use the older rotating cable design; some now use digital controllers ( low power CMOS logic chips or ICs) with servo actuated needles. LCDs are ok as long as you have the older DRO(Digital Read Out) style and not one the whole big High LCD. I mean, throw a little bit ever thing in there, find out what works best. Duplicate on site(using CAD clay whatever work for you) or purchase other designs and experiment with them combine them whatever, multiple designs into multiple designs. I know the asians are doing this, you can see it in their designs. Remember KIT from the Knight Rider series and Air Wolf. Think Star Trek, Star Wars, SG1, etc, etc ... consoles. I found that most TV and Movie consoles are fake but I'd do whatever it takes. In a long lasting and efficient way.

Honda - Digital Cluster with mechanized Speedometer:

GM EV1 Dash - reminds me of the some of the newer Saturn's. I don't like where the blue lit indicators are located, they need to be up close to the driver::

Buick Riviera Commercal - Seventh generation (1986-1993) - has digital displays - wierd ending to this video

1987 Buick Riviera

From: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buick_Riviera
Seventh generation (1986-1993)
The E-body coupes were converted to unit body construction and further downsized for 1986, to a 108 in (2,743 mm) wheelbase shared with the Buick Regal. The V6 was now the only engine, rated initially at 142 hp (106 kW) SAE and 200 lb·ft (270 N·m) of torque. It used the Turbo-Hydramatic 440-T4 automatic with a 2.84:1 final drive ratio. This generation was noted for advanced electronic instrumentation, including the first automotive touchscreen controls, which were on a dash-mounted 9-inch (230 mm) CRT display. Four-wheel disc brakes were standard. With a choice of three suspension packages available, up to the performance oriented FE3 setting, handling was notably improved. The Riviera placed fourth for Motor Trend's 1986 Car of the Year contest.

Fuel economy was notably improved for the 1986 Riviera, but the substantial investment in the downsized, transverse engine front wheel drive platform resulted in a substantial price increase. Downsizing also resulted in a dimensional similarity to smaller, less expensive offering from GM, with shared styling cues reinforcing the unfortunate resemblance.

The smaller dimensions, generic styling, and lack of V8 power soured buyers, and sales plummeted to 22,138 for 1986, only 15,223 for 1987, and a dismal 8,625 for 1988. A restyle for 1989 that added 11 inches (279 mm) to the overall length (on an unchanged wheelbase) helped, but only incrementally, boosting sales to 21,189 for 1989, but dropping to a low of 4,555 for 1993, the shortened final year of that model.[1] The last 1993 Riviera rolled off the Detroit/Hamtramck Assembly plant line on December 10, 1992.

Sales in the personal luxury coupe segment were in decline from 1986 onward, although it is unclear whether the general market trend was initiated by the poor public reception of GM's newly downsized offerings or an inevitable shift in the tastes of the buying public.
