Default Open source gui - application

would be nice if you where to make your own graphical user interface like on your mobile phone. I know that road safty would be an issue but I'm sure some things could be spiced up if you see the used graphics now. And why not run your own software on a seperate system (I mean it would be dangerous to alter or install software on the core system that makes the car work).

I cannot see the manufacturer supporting (or even allowing) user access to this functionality. The liabilities are too great, and there is little or no upside to the manufacturer. At most, I suspect we might see user-customizable display functionality provided by the manufacturer only.

I'd want to be able to customize, just so I can have a full array of gauges. Since all the info is already fed in to the car's computer, I would assume that it's just a matter of programming in gauges.

I am sure if you wanted to void your warranty then you could hooks some sort of open source hardware to your volt. However I think for reliability sake, and GM's sake the only thing they should allow is different user "skins" and windows.

I would love to be able to see all the little details and have a little data logger hooked to my Volt and monitor every nuance. However I would rather GM make it simple and focus on the more important issues.
