Does the Volt have a trunk in which we can put groceries or a couple of golf bags? All the photos and drawings of the Volt look like it was in an accident that smashed the trunk into the back seat.

The Volt as ample trunk space, similar to what you would find with a hatchback I would think. You didn't see the photo with a bunch of green plants in the trunk? Go to the photo section at the top, I'm sure it's in there.
Edit: Here I even found the link for you http://www.gm-volt.com/galleries/alb...-show-car.html Looks like plenty of space for a golf bag or groceries. |

I got to see a Volt in person. I looked into the trunk area and was surprised that it was very deep. What I was not able to discern at the time was the size longitudinally (front-rear length). Some of the recent photos show that it is indeed good sized. Further, the rear seats are meant to fold forward which will probably give enough space to carry a bicycle if not two. The most "controversial" observation I have seen is that the "hump" for the battery will not be covered when the seats fold down, so the top of the console might be exposed to abuse from shifting cargo. Seems like not a major problem (throw a blanket over it if the cargo is any kind of threat). I would also add that the interior in the front seat was VERY generously sized. A guy in front of me was 6 foot 4 or 5 inches and he did not even have to duck his head. The "center console" (the battery) is fairly large though. The back seat seemed similar, but I did not get into the back seat so all I could be sure of was the headroom.

I think that this "hump" will be covered as well as the space between the rear seats in place will be filled. Having such a hole to the trunk wouldn't be acceptable.
My former car (a Citroen C2) had 2 independant foldable rear seats but they were side-stucked. The Volvo C30 has a board separating in addition to the elbow-rest (that is the battery in the Volt) : picture here. That board would cover the hump. |
