Default CNT battery

In two weeks Micro Bubble Technologies will debut for the world the CNT battery. This is battery that based on their claims will more than double the range of electric cars and be rapidly rechargeable. It means that ICE vehicles can become obsolete in two weeks.

When they offered the battery to GM (and the two other big three) for testing, GM declined. Just what did GM have to lose? Unlike the elusive Eestor ultracapacitor, it is a here and now product.

Should this battery live up to the claims, the Chevy Volt will be obsolete before one is produced. The president of the company said that after the American companies turned him down, Chinese companies were interested. Given that this is a South Korean company, it is hard to believe that companies like Hyundai wont be interested.

Are we about to see the leadership in automobiles taken by China and South Korea? And what does this say about the leadership of GM today and our country's investment in GM?

Although this looks very promising, I don't think it is as rosey as you portray. This is an improved lead-acid battery. Very heavy, and we don't have actual specs yet on energy/weight or size to make a direct comparison with the lithium polymer batteries in the Volt.

I remember similar claims being made about FireFly http://www.fireflyenergy.com/ This is certainly a much improved lead-acid battery with longer life and deep discharge capability but only some improvement in energy density despite initial claims of 2 to 3 times improvement.

Ha. They still don't even have a website! EcoloCap, the parent company, just has one simple page talking about the battery. Any one of us could whip up a similar page in about an hour or so.

How about we wait to see the actual battery? Get that third party verification and we will all go, "Ahhhhhhh". Until then, it smells like flatulence.

Texas,

In two weeks CNT Battery is scheduled for their public reveal. In my opinion that is a good thing but doesn't prove anything. The proof is when an independent reputable 3rd party verifies CNT Battery claims...until then CNT Battery is in the "EESTor" category.

Webster Dictionary should add EESTor in it's English dictionary as a new word with a definition of "full of claims, no proof". Dick Weir should be proud .

At this stage comparing Ecolocap to Eestor is unfair. As for some of the other negative comments, I found this:

"Ecolocap has applied its nanotechnology expertise to convert existing battery technologies (such as lead-acid and lithium-ion) into new and improved Carbon Nano Tube Batteries (CNT-Battery). The process involves plating the battery anode and cathode surfaces with carbon nano tubes and modifying the electrolyte in order to reduce internal resistance and thereby increase energy available.

"The CNT-Battery has been put to the test in several independent labs"

While they will be demonstrating the lead acid battery on November 18, I think that it is important to note it also works with lithium. They say nothing about NiMH which is my favorite since it has been proved durable and reliable.

Of course "the battle is the payoff" and there are no certainties until after November 18. However, as best I can tell they have acted honorably up to now.

A while back one of GM's battery people said they are even looking into EEStor. There must've been something REALLY fishy for them to not even accept a battery for testing.

Unless they gave those Chinese companies exclusivity, GM can always get in on this technology any time.

It's makes sense that they are starting with Lead acid batteries because those are about 1/6th the cost of Lithium batteries, so if they can get the energy density up to where Lithium is, it's a downhill battle to market them.

If they can apply this to NiMH and Lithium Ion, it will certainly be quite interesting. There's so many "breakthroughs". Someone should make a dream team battery that includes all them. I'm sure it will eventually happen.

I attempted to respond to #3 Texas but something misfired when I picked quick response. Therefore I will attempt it as a separate message.

Three weeks ago in another thread on this site you wrote:

I went to both of the web addresses that you cite and both were fully functional. The ecolocap site was a web site with a number of tabs and all kinds of information. The youtube site had a video and a post that it had been viewed 4,132 times.

I would suggest that you have a credibility problem.

You found a website for MBT Inc.? Please give us the link. Seriously, I want to find it. Are you talking about the parent company Ecolocap? Here is their description:

"EcoloCap Solutions Inc. is an integrated and complementary network of environmentally focused technology companies that utilize advanced nanotechnology to design, develop, manufacture and sell cleaner alternative energy products. "

Sounds like a group of hopefuls that can't even manage their own websites. Like a farmer's market of tiny farmers.

If I'm wrong, please give us the site for MBT Inc. I would love to be wrong here and hope they are a real operation with serious intent.

We only need one thing - third party verification of their technology. How hard is that for a technology that works?

If it sounds too good to be true...

P.S. I personally want to be wrong on this. I want a great battery solution. Now! I will stand in line in front of EEstor's retail store like a Apple crazed fan, waiting for my super caps. I will scream like a teenage girl attending a concert when they swing open those doors and accept the first person in line.

Texas, don't try to confuse the issue. In your post, which I quoted, you cited an ecolocap website not an mbt site. MBT is 100% owned by Ecolocap, moreover "Michael Siegel, President of EcoloCap Solutions Inc. and CEO of Micro Bubble Technologies Inc." To use an old expression, there is not a dime's worth of difference between them.

In your most recent post you clipped part of their first page. Here is the full quote:
EcoloCap Solutions Inc. is an integrated and complementary network of environmentally focused technology companies that utilize advanced nanotechnology to design, develop, manufacture and sell cleaner alternative energy products.

Our business approach combines science, innovation, and market-ready solutions to achieve environmentally sustainable and economically advantageous, power and energy management practices in the following areas:

* On-Road Transportation: EV/PHEV, trucks, buses, public fleets, mass transit fleets, private fleets
* Off-Road Transportation: marine engines, locomotives, construction equipment
* Power Generation: cell towers, data centers, apartments complexes, hospitals, universities
* Grid Stabilization: utilities, energy services, systems operators, merchant operators, municipalities
* Industrial: power plants, manufacturing plants, boilers, furnaces, turbines, boilers, driers, kilns
* Government: military, defense contractors, systems integrators, aerospace, propulsion systems
* Carbon Credits: Hydro Power, landfill, biomass valorization, industrial improvement, mass transportation

Here is their description of their product under their Products tab:
EcoloCap Solutions Inc., through its subsidiary Micro Bubble Technologies Inc. (MBT), developed and manufactures the Carbon Nano Tube Battery (CNT-Battery), a fully recyclable, rechargeable battery that far exceeds the performance capabilities of any existing battery on the market at this time. This environmentally-friendly and economical product is designed to offer fully scalable and customizable power solutions that will increase efficiency, lower operating costs, and reduce emissions.

Our proprietary technology modifies the fabrication of lead acid batteries by applying a highly-conductive carbon nano tube coating to the anode and cathode cells. As a result, conductive surface area is increased by a factor of billions and electricity is carried out more efficiently. Traditionally, nano tubes have been difficult to synthesize, as they tend to appear in abnormal shapes and cluster together. Our proprietary manufacturing process has perfected the production of 99.99% pure carbon nano tubes. When these complete carbon nano tubes are introduced to a battery along with modified electrolytes, the batteries internal resistance or impendence is greatly reduced. A lower internal resistance due to increased surface area and the modified electrolytes eliminate heat build-up during charging and discharging. The lower operating temperatures significantly extend battery life and eliminate combustibility and shorts.

The CNT-Battery’s advanced technology demonstrates eight times the reserve capacity of traditional lead acid batteries, two and a half times the energy density of lithium-ion batteries, and a recharge time of just five minutes; all at a fraction of the cost of lithium-ion batteries. Its diverse applications range from electric cars to cell towers and feature numerous economical and environmental benefits.

Just what does it take for you to regard a web site as "managed"?
