    Default GM Volt Performance Simulation

I was reading an article in Design News on the Volt's regenerative braking:

    http://www.designnews.com/document.asp?doc_id=235313

and came across a link that appears to provide a lot of technical detailed data on the Volt's performace. It is pretty complicated, but I think those of you that are more technical will enjoy the read:

    http://www.leapcad.com/Transportatio...Simulation.pdf

(edit) Here's a related site with a wealth of technical information:

    http://www.leapcad.com/Transportation/

At this page you can find simulation data on the EV1, Prius and Tesla

I just had a flashback to a physics course in college!

That pdf link was pretty complex, about the only thing left out was the regen cpu's algorithm. zwinga!

I printed out the PDF and my printer caught on fire! (what, too soon?)

Wow, the EV-1 had a 29+ kWh battery. Quite a big unit for NiMH.

Their model is somewhere a bit wrong, because their simulations give results that are significantly different from reality :
    - 0-60 : 8.1s (~9s real)
    - EPA range : 38mi (35mi real)
    - EPA MPG : 29 (38 real)
This may be because some parameters are wrong, like tire size (195/55R21) and gross weight (3 310 lb, that's too light by 500lb!). Their constant power vehicule velocity (28mph) doesn't fit with Motor Trend mesures (a bit above 30mph).
Anyway there's interessant graphs concerning road grade, generator only mode, cruise range estimation...
