Default Front lower bumper light colors

As I've said elsewhere, I've always looked forward to having the bumper lights in the red and blue style, like you see at the top of the forums. I can see why they were made into turn signals, but when I get my Volt I will look into making some LED modifications to see what I like better. If you had your choice, what colors would you choose?

Red lights are often not allowed on the front of cars, aside from emergency vehicles. Best to check your local regulations before changing colors.

It's not quite clear the original color in that photo, but I believe red lights on the front of a vehicle are illegal in some states (certainly in Texas). That color is reserved for emergency vehicles.

Yes... I am aware of the legal implications of putting red lights on the front of a vehicle. I'm not considering putting big, bright red fog lamps there or anything, only some teeny decorative LEDs. That still doesn't make it ok, and I'm not saying people should do it, I'm just trying to get a feel for what people would want if they had their choice.

Given that my mod wouldn't be as visually detailed, I'm actually considering going with simple white. Something to match the DRL. Some matching white lights in the rear to compliment the reverse-gear light would work well too, I think...

I would think that a white LED strip inside for the lights that comes on with the headlamps would look good, as would an LED turn signal bulb. If doing it right it would require a MOD of the entire unit using a heat gun to remove the lens cover. Maybe best to buy two new or used units (some on ebay right now) and modding them.

Thumbs up Both red and blue may be illegal colors on the Volt bumper

As mentiond in other posts, red lights are used only for emergengy vehicles. In other states and territories (as in Puerto Rico) blue lights are also reserved for police vehicles. So the only choices left are green, yellow and white. Amber is similar to yellow-orange, so it may pass. I don't recommend any type of violet lights, because it is not a friendly color at night, and it can also create an epilethic effect on other drivers, making them fall asleep (or in a mental lapse), and become a new traffic hazard. At best, someone could report seeing a URO (Unidentified Road Object)!

Always check your local laws and regulations on the addition and changes of external lights on any vehicle, including the Volt. It is better to be safe than sorry!

I have a set of dual color LED bulbs. White during parking light and amber during turn signal.
I put a set of the on my truck and they are great! Plug and play.

Sadly they are still sitting in the package on my garage shelf. HIDs were a bigger priority for me. I may take a crack at splitting my wheel well open to see if I can get to the back of the housing this weekend. If I have any luck with either access or LED functionality I will certainly update.

    Shouldn't be an issue though.

A-Z Volt: That is an awesome find! I didn't know they had lights that could function like that - I would be very highly interested in how that turns out!! I've bookmarked that page - as soon as you get to trying to install them, please let us know!
