Default Help? Anyone with experience with Tire Snow Cables (I need to buy them today! )

More serious snow is coming to Colorado. It was 78 and sunny today, but could get up to 12" tues/wed night and I have a flight to catch on wed. So I'm looking at getting some tire chains/cables to be safe. I checked the manual and apparently tire "chains" are not recommend (not enough room), but it says nothing about cable. So are cables acceptable or not?

    I found this thread
    http://gm-volt.com/2010/12/27/chevy-...-snow-and-ice/
that listed a few that might fit, but no one has listed any experience. (and I could not find any of these in stock).

Any of you '10 or early '11 volt owners actually test out any tire chains?

I was thinking of something like these Cobra's (I need something in stock!)

Which I found in stock at autozone and at

    Anyone used Cobra tire cables?

Unfortunately, a cab for 70 miles each way would be a bit expensive. These airport runs are one reason why I bought Volt over say a Tesla or Leaf. Not as urgent as I decided to drive up the airport tonight and stay there. But still curious if anyone has used snow cables.

Is there actually enough clearance between the wheel well and the tire to accommodate tire chains? Seems kind of tight. Might work at first, but if you load it down, or hit a bump, they might scrape.

That link to the "chains" at Autozone sure look like they'd work as long as they are tight on the tire. They seem like pretty small "chains". I'm familiar with CO winters as I lived there 5 years. Loved the mountains.

I lived there for 15 years, glad I moved, hate the white stuff. Was clearing the garage a week ago and found a bucket with my old 4X4 trucks tire chains in it. I can remember breaking one of those old real chains and ripping up a wheel house during a blizzard.

Add a couple of heavy trucker bungee cords to them to make sure they stay tight.

I did not buy them but take it out in 8" of snow then slush. not needed in snow. will wait for an icy day and see if they are needed then. the weight abs and tires made it fine in deep snow and slush. the air dan is probablyore of an issue than the tires
