    I don't really understand why a large rental company (Enterprise/Hertz) would rent a pure BEV vs a Volt. Sounds like they are just asking for trouble.

    The short answer is because they probably didn't think of the charging issues. Enterprise in particular mostly rents to people getting their cars repaired and so forth, so most people renting their cars would be driving locally and, therefore, theoretically it makes sense that EVs could be used. There is doubtless some demand for a different type of car as well.

    It's a great way to introduce people to the concept of EVs but in practice EVs are more complicated than they're made out to be. The charging issues with ground fault outlets is a good example. So yes, it would probably work better if they rented Volts more than Leafs. But I'm sure they'll figure this out as time goes on, or they'll figure out how to prep people better, or both. Having to flat bed cars does not do much for your bottom line.

    One reason is BEVs are cheaper, another is their rental cars won't have a lot of miles put on them since the renters are unlikely to have a L2 charger at home. So if they want to keep the car more than one day, the car will require about 19 hours to fully recharge.

    Good point about the time to recharge. I get it and have quoted the FAQ below a time or two. Another ace in the hole for the Volt since you can charge in 9-10hrs on 110/120v. Sure you may use a little gas if you are going 40+ miles but a lot less than most cars.

    A: It takes about ~30 minutes to 80% at a 480 volt quick-charge station.
    Starting from a depleted battery, ~7 hours at 220/240V (depending on amperage),
    about 20 hours at 110/120V.
