    Default New Volt owner

Hello all. Just picked up my black with two tone leather. I thought the 2012 models receive Onstar for 3 years, but the dealership said only 6 months?
I also signed up for Onstar at the dealership. I would like to setup the Android app so I can monitor and turn the car on. I dont have an account number from Onstar and they have'nt emailed me anything.

    Congratulations!

It does take a few days for Onstar to get to you. You can always try hitting the button on the roof and this will put you in touch with a live person. A very strange (but pleasant) experience. The smartphone App is an essential part of the Volt experience. As are the diagnostic reports from OnStar (which contain a lot of faulty information, btw) and the myvolt.com website. Enjoy!

You should double check with your Volt Advisor on the Onstar. I thought the 2012's came with 3 years (the 2011 came with 5 years). It is very easy to pair your phone with the Volt bluetooth. Check your owners manual for instructions. Congratulations on your new Volt!! You will love it!

Not all salesmen at all dealers are as up to date as they should be on the Volt. The MY '12 Volt has 3 years of free OnStar. You can push the button and ask them yourself. If the dealer *did* somehow manage to screw that up (and I really don't think they could, but hey) then calling OnStar should be able to get it fixed.

    Enjoy your new car!

OnStar is 3 years on the 2012 MY and 5 years on the 2011 MY. Don't worry- you automatically have the 3 years of OnStar with the "Directions and Connections" package as opposed to the basic "Safe & Sound" package. Have you already downloaded the "OnStar RemoteLink app to your phone? You should get that done ASAP. Did you press the blue OnStar button just before you headed home from the dealership? Please go out and press the button in the morning -
One more thing... just what OnStar package did they sell you and are you leasing the vehicle? I would cancel the "extra OnStar package" if you are leasing the vehicle because you have 3 years already and if not please know the package you bought SHOULD be added to the end of your 3 years if you are purchasing the vehicle.

    Good Luck

Did you do the 'initial setup'? The dealer should have told you to do this. Like the previous posters have said, press the blue button and talk to the advisor. Expect to spend about 20 minutes with them confirming address, contact numbers, etc. While you are on the line with them, ask for your OnStar account number. With that account number, you can log into the OnStar webpage and set your username and password for OnStar. You need this username and password to log into the iphone/android app.

I just picked up my 2011 Volt and the dealer made the same mistake. 2011's come with 5 years OnStar and the 2012's come with 3. I just called OnStar at 888-466-7827 and they gave me my registration number.

The dealership was likely wrong about the 6 months. Touch the OnStar button and talk to them, they will email you everything that you need immediately. OnStar is an excellent service! The Android app is also excellent!

Thanks for the welcome and replies. I called OnStar and it is 3 years, too bad its not 5 years, but I guess the early adopters gets the better bonuses.
