Default Check Engine Light With Codes

This afternoon I got a check engine light and OnStar says it is error code P0D3E AND P1E00. Says we should be safe to drive the car. I had our Blink installed yesterday and plugged this car in (had been using the aerovironment charger). Any idea if the two are connected? Any thoughts on whether this is urgent enough to require dealer attention this week or something I can put off until next week? OnStar seemed reasonably relaxed about the issue.

P0D3E basically means the car detected a low or unstable charging INPUT voltages (ie AC) even though an EVSE was detected as being "connected" and charging was being commanded. P1E00 is just a generic code sent from another module (in this case the on-board charging module) that essentially causes the "Check Engine" light to illuminate.

So it sounds like it was something to do with a recent charging event that didnt appear to be "behaving" correctly.Agree that you shouldnt require immediate dealer intervention. The lamp WILL eventually extinguish on it's own after driving it for a few "trip" cycles (cycling the ignition isnt good enough). Providing it doesnt observe thesame failure again.
If you have problems with your 240V EVSE I suggest you switch over to 120V and have an electrician (or your installer?) look at it ...

Thanks! There was some initial problem with the blink not detecting the car. we had to unplug then cycle the circuit break for a reboot. So hopefully this will just go away now that the blink is working properly.

Can I start by reiterating just how AWESOME this forum is? And WOT you rock man! So driving home today my MIL came on and I thought a trip to my dealer may be in store tomorrow morning. Got home, plugged in my scanner and it spit out DTCs P0D3E and P1E00 (same as above), but no information was available for either code. Next I do a quick search here on GM-Volt.com and up pops this thread which has all the info I needed to know! Well mostly this thread, one other thread also had this to add:

On-Board Battery Charger Control Module (OBCM)- P0D3E

After reading this forum, I'm pretty sure I know what caused this. I use delayed charging at home so when plugging in at work this morning, I decided to try the temporary override by plugging in, then unplugging and plugging back in within 5sec. But the problem is I unplugged while the dash light was still amber and the J1772 handshake was still taking place (relays clicking). Then when I plugged back in nothing happened (light stayed amber and no horn chirp). So then I had to unplug and wait 10sec, then try again and it worked fine. So apparently when doing the 5sec temp override technique you need to wait until the light is green first before you unplug! I fully expect the MIL to clear after 3 drive cycles.

So I learned something new about my Volt and thanks to this forum it didn't cost me a trip to the dealer and missed work!

No issues with my Blink and the Volt. I have had the charger for a couple of weeks now.

Just to clarify, my issue occured while using an SPX Power Xpress EVSE. So folks shouldn't think this problem is related specificaly to Blink EVSEs. Glad to know your's is working well, voltage692.

Just to clarify, I was quoting SolarExec. So you shouldn't think my reply is related specifically to you. Sad to hear your SPX isn't working well, Joule Thief.

Thanks for the clarification. My reply was not specifically related to your post either, just a general statement in case others read this thread so they don't think this issue is about a specific correlation between the Blink EVSE and MIL / DTC P0D3E. My SPX is working fine, thanks - never said it wasn't.

You are correct JT. You CAN potentially set the P0D3E by interuptting the start of charge "during" the J1772 hand-shake. (typically within 1st 5 seconds after plugging in).

If you are going to use the "double-clutch" technique to bypass time delayed charging, you should WAIT for the flashing green LED and chhirps before cycling the J1772 connector out and in again. Then wait to confirm a steady green and single chirp.
Have you had the latest software updates?

    PS thanks for the compliments.
