Not only is the TWC and the exhaust stream "close-coupled", but the HO2S is actually a new "quick-lightoff" design in order to get it active and into closed loop fuel delivery as quickly as possible.
But even given that (and over 35 working in and around active automotive exhaust systems) I too do not believe this to be something that could ever create a seriously unsafe scenario with respect to CO concentrations (given the 2 x 10 minute run time maximum) except in a well sealed, non-ventilated space.
BUT STILL it appears GM will be responding to end-user requests for some level of personalization. :applause:

For the 2012 model year General Motors IS apparently planning on adding some personalization features for the engine start-up in cold temperatures when using the remote start feature. These features are loosely described in the 2012 Owner's Manual.I am attempting to clarify all of the details before I provide a detailed post, but essentially there IS or WILL BE a method for the engine start-up to be disabled by the owner when using RVS, but ONLY when plugged in. There will also the ability to select the temperature extreme (Cold or Very Cold) in wich the start up would occur if enabled (or if UN-plugged when it will ALWAYS be enabled)

What I am also attempting to ascertain if this software revision can potentially be retrofit into the 2011 models with the most recent (perhaps someone here in the forums can check? ) or some future update.

According to the Owner's Manual the ability to alter these settings on the 2012s is located in the: "Config">"Vehicle Settings" > "Climate and Air Quality"

    Hi WOT - -

    Thanks for all you do!

Did you ever get an answer for whether or not GM can make a firmware update that addresses this in the 2011? I for one would LOVE to disable the feature when the car is plugged in!

    Regards,

I'll second this question WOT. Have you been able to confirm if/when this new feature will be implemented? Thanks for all of your expertise!

I wish I would have known that it hasn't been implemented. After reading the owners manual for my 2012 volt and finding that I didn't have those config options I talked to my volt advisor to find out if there was a software update and she didn't know anything about
the config options for remote start and ice heat assist settings. She told me to contact my dealer so I went there and they had my car for 2 hours to find out that there is no update. They told me it must only be available in the U.S. Lol! at least they gave me free coffee and breakfast.

Hopefully this update comes soon. Thanks WOT!

Just a wild guess, but since the 120 V plug option does not provide enough power to fully maintain battery condition, preheat the cabin and complete the charging cycle without ICE assistance, I'll guess that the above will be true only with 220-240 V power.
