Default Where is the Volt's Mic?

When using OnStar, etc. where is the microphone located? Is it in the dash top somewhere? The driver's A pillar? The box behind the rear view mirror? Inquiring minds would like to know.

In the overhead conlsole there should be 2 sets of tiny louvers. They should be the mic for onstar and bluetooth.

AFAIK know there is only 1 microphone. But it is (as Jim suggests) up in the overhead console. Note the 2 small holes on either side of the Park Assist button. IIRC the microphone is actually on the RH side of the switch for some "good" reason that elludes me right now.

Given the audio environment of any auto, it would stun me if there aren't two microphones. One would be for primary pickup, and one is for near field echo cancellation. The second mic might also assist in ambient noise reduction. The signals from two mics get processed by the DSP to improve sound quality heard at the other end.

It seems like OnStar knows if there are other people in the car beside the driver when you call them. Is that true?

At OnStar they can't see if there is anyone else in the car but they can definitley hear if there are other people in the vehicle besides the driver. It is a really sensitive mic and can pick up a lot of noise.

    @ Steverino,

The microphone is located in the 4 little holes by the OnStar buttons.

    @ voltage692,

Onstar does not view vehicle occupancy. But in the event of an accident the SDM sends crash data which includes how many seat belts are buckled in.

Any idea why I have to SHOUT for people to be able to hear me? Whenever I call someone using bluetooth, I literally have to yell as loud as I can for them to hear me.

VoltMike, not sure what is going on in your case, but in my Volt people can hear me very clearly over Bluetooth, even better than my old Bluetooth headset which was right up to my ear. Perhaps it is a reception issue? Is your phone in a location where it would have trouble maintaining a good signal? I have mine mounted on a proclip by the power button and it works great.
