Default I am not sure if this has been asked b4 but did the Volt come with Onstar minutes?

When we bought our 2009 Silverado, we were given some Onstar minutes to use in the truck. Last Friday, my cell phone's battery was dead so I thought I would just use the Onstar minutes given to us with the Volt to call home with. I discovered that I had no Onstar minutes available when I tried to use Onstar..I guess I was wrong for assuming that Onstar would give us free minutes to use in the Volt like we got with our chevy truck purchase. However, if anything, I think the Volt should have had free minutes before our chevy truck as our truck had a spare tire and the Volt does not! Thankfully, the Volt didn't have a flat tire but I was thinking what a bad spot I was being in the backwoods of Louisiana with a dead battery on my cell phone and no Onstar minutes available if I needed them. Just my two cents on the matter

I bought some minutes at a very good discount when I picked up the car, about 90% off, as I recall. I don't know if that was an early bird special, but likely the same offer is made to everyone. Turns out I've not used any minutes so far because I have good cell coverage in town. Still have a few months to go on the deal.

No, they make a whole sales pitch about buying minutes when you pickup the car. At least that was my experience. You can buy minutes later of course.

Thanks for the replies..no one pitched us buying minutes to use in the Volt when we bought the Volt so I thought, like with our truck, we would get a few free minutes with the car. Almost learned that lesson the hard way...

Hmm... I think that my Volt came with 100 free minutes. I've only made 2 quick calls, so most of the minutes remain (and may expire for all I know). That said, I have called OnStar for directions a number of times, but that does not require minutes. It's a great service, no doubt!

I had a few free minutes I never used; they quickly expired. With the bluetooth hands free, I don't really need the OnStar minutes and will buy them only when they're needed. I've had a Verizon plan where the OnStar phone on my 2008 Yukon XL is treated like any other cell phone on the account, where I can share the minutes of my family plan for a flat charge of $10/month. That plan's going away this year, likely because the last 2 CEO's of GM have been AT&T guys, and they've probably pulled the Verizon account from OnStar to hand it over to their old buddies at AT&T (only my guess).

I also got 100 minutes that expire in one year -- less than 5 months from now!

I bought 300 minutes for $20 before I drove it out of the showroom.
Only GM could make the Volt.
