Default Huge $6000 Colorado State Tax Credit for Volt

I am just getting my Volt ordered since Colorado is one of the later stated to offer these cars.

In my digging, I have now confirmed one interesting item for others considering a Volt in Colorado. All of us know that the Volt qualifies for the $7500 Federal tax credit. As of May 2011, Colorado offers a $6000 tax credit for a Volt if purchased on or after January 1, 2010 but prior to January 1, 2012. What this means to me is that my $45k Volt will really only cost me $32k.

It sounds too good to be true, but my CPA tells me that this is real and I have located information on the Colroado State Department of Revenue website that lists the 2011 Volt as one of the example vehicles andf it has the $6000 credit. I am sure that the 2012 Volt will be the same.

Take a look if you are so inclined. Here is the link to the FYI document from the State of Colorado.: http://www.colorado.gov/cs/Satellite...&ssbinary=true

According to chevrolet.com, Volts for Colorado have a production start date of November 2011. Do you have some assurance from your dealer that your car will be delivered before Jan. 1st? There were similar issues with credits for EVs in California where the program ended before orders were fulfilled and were out of luck getting their credit.

I believe we have a $5000 state credit here in Georgia. Believe me, I will be looking into it!

I was concerned by this as well and asked them how they can get their cars before the time the Chevy website says they will be available in Colorado. They confirmed that I am one of their first three allocation units (their Demo, me and one other one) and that they have been told that these three will be delivered in Late September or early October. The dealer also said that the website is setting worst case expectations for general roll out and that pre-sold cars can come in before that date as long as the dealer has completed the required training, installed their charger and have met the demo requirements.

Even if they are wrong and the car is delayed a month or two into November or even December, I think I will be OK. We shall see.

The DC Metro and suburbs will be served well if VA and MD offers that kind of credit. Hopefully the states can afford it. I think PA here will not do such a credit since they have budget issues now (including the state capital Harrisburg possibly going into bankruptcy as a city).

I hope it works for you, you lucky dog

I was hoping Texas would have something like this too, but guess that's not going to happen.

Colorado has a state tax, we don't. I'd rather keep it that way.
