Sort of an old thread, but I was wondering if anyone knew if this pertained or was still available for 2012's? Had my Volt only a couple days and it has already suffered a separated front Air Dam from the driveway.

    Thanks.

    BSquare,

When we purchased our 2012 Volt in December '11, the part number listed above was correct (this thread was a big help) and the dealer, as part of our purchase negotiations, obtained the part and installed it for free on the vehicle we wanted (not a pre-order). 4,000+ miles now and very happy with the lower profile air dam, no scrapes or snowplowing here in Chicago. They let me keep the original air dam if I ever felt the need to revert back to it.

Default Still relevant after all these months

    Fellow Volt Drivers,

It is nice to see this thread, which I started many months ago, still of use. We continue to enjoy our Volt after almost 18,000 miles and averaging 107+ mpg!!!!

How important is the air dam? I just picked up my Volt and noticed they didn't install it. It's still sitting in the trunk. I have to go back tomorrow anyway so I'll have them put it on. But was wondering if it would be ok to not have them put it on?

It would be interesting to hear if your mileage/range is affected due to increased drag.

I would like to request one.....any Volt Advisors available to assist me? The dragging in and out of the driveway is like fingernails on a chalkboard.

I took my new Volt back to my dealer today. I forgot my insurance card yesterday when I got the car so had to take that in. They also put their dealer sticker on the car which I told them not to do, so they took that off. I decided to go ahead and have them put the air dam on (they didn't install it during PDI). If it scrapes too much and bugs me I can always look into getting the shorter one.

Mine didn't have it at delivery. Yes it affects mileage. I had the short one put on.

Hmmm. I was told by Keyes Chevrolet in Van Nuys, CA (where I bought my Volt) that the cost would be around $200 for the smaller dam and installation. Is the "free of charge" smaller air dam only available in certain parts of the U.S? I find $200 to be very pricey....unless Keyes is gouging?

About 3 weeks ago, when washing the car, I noticed that the segments of the air dam had separated (the air dam surface is composed of three segments), and the freeway "flapping noise" that we had been hearing was coming from this separation !

Consulting with my local dealer, I discovered that simply "upon request," GM was covering the installation of a smaller front air dam. It took about 10 days for the new replacement to arrive at my dealership and only 30 minutes for the installation.

Others might want to consider this if they too are having such regular scraping as we did.
