    Default Back up light

That center mounted backup light on our Volts is both ugly and not very effective. When backing up at night it does a poor job of illuminating the area behind the car. I also think that it looks ugly although others may not feel that way.

I think it looks great and works well, even though it was lifted from the Saturn Sky. In particular, its low mounting really helps the usefulness of the back-up camera at night.

I'm fine with it's look and styling. Not having ever had a backup light/camera, it's the best one I have ever had! :-)

    Default Criticisms Not Welcome

Maynard I am with you. Although I don't mind the aesthetics of the backup light, in fact, I think it fits with the futuristic, "make it so number one" theme they have going on. I mean if that dash isn't straight off of Jean Luc Picard's Bridge then I don't know my STTNG.

However, the single light does NOT provide adequate lighting when backing up. I understand they went with a solo light to meet EU standards, but it needed to be a stronger light than that.

And as usual criticism of the Volt, or as I like to think of it, "how to make the Volt better" is met with all the enthusiasm of a "Mounds" bar in the punch bowl. :-)

I guess our problem with the lack of illumination is because we don't have the backup camera option. It may be OK when you have that camera.

What about trying a brighter LED bulb in place of what ever is in there? When backing up I'm usually in a lit parking lot or backing into my garage that has the light on when I open the door. But more vision is better for sure! I don't know how good or bad these guys are but I found them advertising on this site...

Might be worth a try for that one that has 45 diodes on it!

Yea, just put in a brighter bulb yourself and call it the day. I am sure GM has better things to work on.

I got the V-LEDs rear LED license frame for my birthday recently. It needs some more tweaking, but that's a little more difficult when it doesn't get dark 'till after 8:00. I masked off the center two LEDs as described (I'm just using electrical tape for now) and they certainly through a lot more light out the back end!
