    Default 2012 order tracking

Put in a 2012 Volt order at my local dealer on June 10th which included a deposit, and was later given an order number (which was not actually a number but a set of six letters). Wanted to then track my order on the internet, but my dealer indicated it might take some weeks before the order number is recognized by "the system". Sure enough, entering my info at www.camarotracking.com showed no info.

    So my questions are:
Does anyone know from personal experience how long it is before their personal order is recognized?
Are order "numbers" usually in the format of six letters?

    Great information; thanks as well!

BTW, I too put down a deposit last Saturday and it showed up on both tracking systems on Friday (as a code 1102).

Mine happened to have one number in it, but yeah. Calling the six character thing an "order number" is a bit of a misnomer!

Tried accessing your indicated link which tends to be tricky on an Android smartphone. I think it verifies that order numbers are in a six character format and that order numbers should be recognized in a couple days. Is that a correct reading of your link? My dealer said it should be more like a few weeks. Should I be worried?

A lot of information there (and in link 1). Probably best viewed with a larger device.

Yes exactly. No offense, but that's why I might have appreciated a confirmation of my interpretation.

Update: I found I do have a status posted today. (1102) order entered via web. Proceeding status (1100) seems to indicate that dealer does't have an allocation. I'd be curious to know how likely it'd be my order goes unfilled? Sorry if I seem to be a worry wart. Just like to anticipate problem events.

I too am confused about allocations. When I was shopping for a dealer, most said that they would not get 2012 allocations for some time. But the VA I worked with acted like this was something dealers would know about and indeed my dealer said he had an open one for me. Perhaps he was anticipating getting one seeing as his dealership is one of the largest in my area?

Seeing 1100 is a GOOD thing! Unscrupulous dealers will say they have allocations and will put you in line, and not even bother entering you into the workbench. That you had an order number made that unlikely, but it's good to see the confirmation.

Don't feel like a worry wart. I fretted over mine until it went to 3000! Also, don't get excited about 2050, it doesn't mean anything as far as the order is concerned. The GREAT milestone is when it hits 2000. That's when GM grants your dealer an allocation, and the dealer chooses to apply it to your order.

Dealers can enter as many orders as they wish, regardless of how many allocations GM has said they'll get (some do, in hopes GM will grant them more allocations - and that usually doesn't seem to work). The thing to do is ask your dealer how many allocations they expect to get from GM, and where on their list of allocations do they expect to place your car order.

Seems you and I are at about the same point in the ordering process. I'd be curious to know how and when you got paired up with a VA?
