Default Each Green Battery Bar = X%

There are 10 green battery segments on the battery gauge on the driver's LCD screen. Simple math would conclude that each segment equals 1/10th of the total charge. So 6 illuminated green segments equals a 60% state of charge (SOC). But this does not seem to be the case because I drove on a fully charged battery until one green bar went away. At that point the OnStar app indicated a 86% SOC. Has anyone figured out what the correlation is between the green bars and SOC?

The OnStar app doesn't seem to match what the DIC says. When I get to work, the DIC says I have a certain number of EV miles left, but the OnStar app always shows one less mile of EV range than the DIC shows. Maybe a similar glitch that causes the SOC to not match the vehicle.

Keep in mind the bars may show an rounded level of charge. So if 9 bars are showing, it could represent everything from 85-94%.

You have to remember that the green bar is just estimating the range based on your driving history. This includes driving style and exterior temperature.

If the Volt starts out at 100% charge, then the top bar represents any point between 91-100% charged, then drops down to 9 bars representing 81-90% charged, etc. The difference between the Volts display and the OnStar app could be just rounding down on the app.

I originally didn't think that the green battery segment bars and the miles remaining shown near the green bars were displaying the same thing. So you are saying that the green bars are just a graphical representation of the miles remaining? I was thinking that the green bars represented battery SOC and the numbers next to it represented remaining miles. Remaining miles is based on driving history, temperature, etc while SOC is not affected by these things.

No, I meant the green bars showed the SOC, but the SOC shown by OnStar didn't always match the green bars in the DIC. Also, the EV miles shown in the DIC don't seem to match the EV miles shown in the OnStar app. In other words, the DIC doesn't agree with the OnStar map, in either SOC or EV miles left.

No problem. Now, if I could just get a vehicle diagnostic report, I would be happy. For some reason, I got the first one on the day I bought the car, but nothing since. OnStar Technical Assistance said they would send a trigger signal and I should get a report within a couple of days. Hopefully...
