    Default Accident Video Recorder

Last year I was involed in a terrible accident for which I was blamed. The fact of the matter was it wasn't my fault, I could have proved it if only I had a video recording of the accident, but I didn't. I've learned my lesson and now have an accident digital recorder on my volt. The Volt is the best platform I've ever seen for an accident recorder. The little storage area on the top of the dash has a 12 volt outlet thats off when the Volt is turned off and is turned on when the Volt is powered-up. This is perfect for the accident recorder I installed. Whenevery I power my Volt up, the accident recorder starts to record and turns off when the Volt is powered down. It automatically overwrites the memory, and automatically saves the a minute before and after the shock if the G-sensors experience a shock greater than 3 g's. In my opinion, if you are ever in an accident, it may be the best hundred bucks you ever spent.

Here's a link to a the video from the camera:

I purchased the camera off ebay. It was called Cube 6 Car Blackbox Camera and I think I bid around 60 bucks. Beautifull made, but unfortunately they don't appear to be selling it anymore. Here's a link to the manufacture

It's a Korean outfit. As I said beautifully made but its owner's manual was absolutely impossible to figure out. Whoever did the translation did a terrible job. I had orginally tried to convince the manufacture of the GoPro HD camera to make an accident recorder but they weren't interested. Too bad, their camera is awesome, all they had to do is make it auto start upon application of power and automatically overwrite the memory.

I can imagine that video being used against you in the court of law as well. A double-edged sword. That is a great idea though. I can foresee it being a great On Star feature someday. Would be nice to have a rear-facing and forwards-facing one. Maybe even the sides to get a full 360 view.

Yeah, your right. I don't mind taking responsibility when I screwed-up, but it just really ticks me off when I get blamed for something I didn't do.

Here's a link to an article that may explain just what you are talking about, and it could be implemented on GM models in the future: http://gm-volt.com/2011/01/06/gm-unv...e-4g-features/
    Vehicle monitoring
Cameras mounted throughout the interior and exterior of the car allow remote viewing of what is happening in and around your parked vehicle through a smartphone or PC.
    Impact detection
The research vehicle has the ability to send live video to secure servers in the cloud from each of its six cameras placed around the exterior and interior of the vehicle. This is triggered by events around the car, or by an application on a smartphone. When an impact such as a parking lot fender-bender is detected, the vehicle transmits a video clip – helping to identify the offending driver.

Pretty nifty technology. Great video. I can see where it could be very beneficial to either party of an accident.

Very cool! Would you please post a picture or two showing how it is mounted and wired in your Volt?

    Default Drive Cam

This kind of camera is used in commercial vehicles. One company I know of is Drive Cam. It records for thirty seconds over and over until there is some shock, then it saves the thirty seconds before and after the shock. It goes off when you hit bumps in the road too. This allows the company to have a record of accidents, but also check up on whether drivers are wearing required ties or name tags and things like that. I understand the need for accident records, I am less fond of the company spying on me for other reasons.
