Well, that's a step in the right direction!
    Congratulations!
$240 for 6 months is indeed a lot of electricity - that would be more that my annual electricity fee for my Volt!
The important step was to get the acceptation, a later negociation about more realisitic fees can be done
afterwards. This is a prime example of the cost of being an early adopter!
You are opening up the road for those who will follow your steps!

Ok - and you will see that I was only able to use 9.6kwh before the ICE came on. First time I ever see this as 10+ is normal for me. Weird.
Great stats for the trip, lower speeds on rolling hills, especially if your using cruse control to maximize regen = amazing mpg, did the ICE turn on and off in CS mode at speeds between 90-100km/h?

About using less than 10kw/h, would the use of the fan or A/C affected the amount shown?

This evening I drove out to Orleans to meet up with ''Howiee'' from this forum, he picked up his used Volt in Toronto this weekend, nice ride! I managed to get 80kms on one charge, including less than 10 minutes of 120V charging at his place (not enough to make a difference right?) The ''this charge'' screen said I used 10.7kw/h, isn't that a little high? Usually it's 10.2-10.4, I did some mega regen on my way there and back, country roads at 85km/h or only 5km/h over posted speed limits with very smooth deceleration and acceleration, temperatures from 18C-11C, using fan only and eco. I'm very impressed!

We also hit 10,000 electric kms today, milestone!

Congratulations on a great personal breakthrough and for being a pioneer. Considering $240 is about what most pay for gas in a month and a half it's a good first step. Keep track of what you use so that you can negotiate it down later, and happy motoring

I took the screen shot from the trip back and you can calculate my CS mileage based on me driving 257.8 kms CS and using 13.75L (or going 160.2miles using 3.63 gallons). This all works out to be 5.33L/100kms (or 44.1mpg). I would say I averaged about 90-100kph (or 55-62mph). That's pretty awesome for CS mode and as I said beats most cars out there. The whole trip to Oshawa and back only cost me 36.1L x $1.30 = $47 (my electricity was free so no need to factor this in). Fantastic - couldn't be happier.

Thanks for the info; I see one thing that differs between the figure of 36+mpg that I threw out and the CS mileage that you are calculating; I'm always using VoltStats and also my own calculations are using US gal. which distorts the comparison. I'm likely getting closer to the 40mpg figure. That didn't occur to me until I saw your calculations in B/W.

Offhand, I cannot explain why you only used 9.6kwh because I'm sure most of us, most times are using 10-10.5. The only variable I can think of is the 'regen' achieved during that period.............my guess, in your case, maybe not much.

I'm not sure I understand you here. One imperial gallon has more fuel than a U.S. gallon (1.2 u.s gallons = 1 imperial gallon) so if I had done the calculations using imperial gallons my mpg would have even been higher (53mpg in fact). I often see this distortion here in Canada - at the local Ford dealership where they stick a focus or fiesta out front with an outrageous claim of 50+mpg (imperial of course).

Go down to you local Canadian Tire and buy an energy consumption meter for about $25. Keep track of your actual consumption. In 6 months, you can make a case for setting the correct rate, and maybe even get credit for their overcharge (pun intended).

I believe your calculations used 4.5 litres to a gal. (Canadian gallon); if my calculations and VoltStats are based on the smaller U.S. gallon, then the expected mpg should be less.

No I did my callculations with 4L to a gal. Just plug in 5.33L/100kms in any conversion calculator and it will show 44.1 U.S. mpg

I love the warmer weather for the increase in range! New personal best today, 83.1 km. I thought I was reallly going to blow past the old record until I got on Hwy 403. Guelph to Hamilton 51 km and still showed 47 km remaining! I would have loved to see 98 km on the dash. The volt uses a lot less power at 80 km/hr than it does at 100 km/hr.
Personal Best on a single charge 90.9 km (56.5 miles)
