I got the SPX Voltec. I didn't have SPX do the installation because they wanted an electrician to come from Grimsby to Kitchener to do the work and it was very expensive. So I looked up an electrician myself. My all in cost was ~$1300 and I got ~$650 back from the government.

I don't have a garage and I park outside and I liked the layout plus cable and connetor management of the SPX charger. If the SPX charger fails outside the warranty period I will make it into an open EVSE project.

I haven't used unhaggle.com but I have used carsaver.ca to get invoice pricing and intial quotes from dealers. It helped a little. Salesmen get a little anxious when you walk in knowing the invoice price.

I got a price from Unhaggle, but they don't include stuff such as extended warranty, tinting and clear bra which are dealer dependent costs. I used their offer as a baseline and decided what I felt comfortable paying for those extras. I also had the CarCostCanada report which matched the Unhaggle invoice cost. On a car over $40k, gotta have all the information.

    Question TPMS ReLearn Tool..

    Hello Fellow Canadians,

A quick question.. Have any of you rotated your own tires?

Did you use the TPMS Relearn tool? Where did you buy it from.

I know SPX and Tire Rack (in the States) sell them, but am hoping it's available closer to home.

    Thanks,

    CW.

I rotate my own tires when I change over my snow tires. I bought my relearn tool online out of the States because you can find them much cheaper down there. Shop around online and you will see what I mean. I ordered mine from Katech(part#KAT-ST-181). It is a good unit and at the time was the best priced one I could find. That was 2 years ago so someone out there might have a better price than that.

    Thumbs up

    Hi Wainair,

Thanks for the info.. I'm familiar with your unit. It's a good one!

Looks like ordering from the U.S. might be the best way to go.

I'll update which one I decide to go with!

    Appreciate your help!

    Regards,

    CW!

Hello fellow Volt owners, I haven't posted on here in a while and I thought I'd update you guys on how my Volt is doing. I've owned it since December 2011 so I've done 2 winters a summer and a short spring with it. I'm at 51,000km and 37,000 of those are EV. 979L burned for an average of 1.91L/100km. Not bad! I've taken it up to Kapuskasing, Ontario all the way up to the Cold weather testing lab and all the way down to the front steps of the GM headquarters in Detroit, even drove by it's birthplace at Hamtramck!

Overall she's been a great car, I bring her out to lots of shows and she was even on the 6 o'clock news! BEST CAR EVER! Some problems I've had are a sticky charge port door and two of the little silver buttons to lock/unlock the doors are jammed, otherwise, all good! She's also had one oil change.

Also, for those in the Nation Capital Region, or if you just want to join our group, you can find us on facebook @ https://www.facebook.com/groups/ottawagatineauvolts/

    Happy Volting!

    UPDATE: May 16th, 2013

After some research, I decided to go with Tire Rack (us).

Shipment included all the brokerage and duties through UPS:

Unit: ATEQ TPMS Sensor Trigger VT5

ATEQ TPMS Sensor Trigger: $80.00 us.

    Shipping: $17.45

    HST: $10.40

    Order Total Including Shipping: $107.85

Rotated yesterday.. VT5 performed flawlessly. In less than a minute, the entire relearn was complete.

    Cheers!

    CW.

ATEQ TPMS Sensor Trigger Instructions - Specific To The Volt:

    1. Set the parking brake.

    2. Put the vehicle in ON/RUN and place the vehicle in P (Park).

    3. If the DIC display is minimized, press the SELECT knob to maximize it.

    4. Use the SELECT knob to scroll to the Tire Pressure display screen.

    5. Press and hold the SELECT knob for five seconds to begin the sensor matching process. A message displays confirming to begin the process.

    6. Use the SELECT knob to select YES with the highlighted selection, and press the SELECT knob again to confirm the selection.

The horn sounds twice to signal the receiver is in relearn mode and the TIRE LEARNING ACTIVE message displays on the DIC screen.

    7. Start with the driver side front tire.

    8. Place the relearn tool against the tire sidewall, near the valve stem. Then press the button to activate the TPMS sensor.

A horn chirp confirms that the sensor identification code has been matched to this tire and wheel position.

    9. Proceed to the passenger side front tire, and repeat the procedure in Step 8.

    10. Proceed to the passenger side rear tire, and repeat the procedure in Step 8.

    11. Proceed to the driver side rear tire, and repeat the procedure in Step 8.

The horn sounds two times to indicate the sensor identification code has been matched to the driver side rear tire, and the TPMS sensor matching process is no longer active.

The TIRE LEARNING ACTIVE message on the DIC display screen goes off.

    12. Turn the vehicle off.

    13. Set all four tires to the recommended air pressure level as indicated on the Tire and Loading Information label.
