Great strategy - it immediately gives Microsoft entry into the mobile computing market, which has been dominated by Apple and their iPhone and iPad devices. Now the gloves are off.

Not so sure it is a great thing. Both those companies are trying to grapple with Apples dominance and frankly a better product. I have to say since I converted to Apple in my world, the issues are nil, no more days of recovery of desktops, simple consistent interfaces and solid iron. Yes cost just a bit more but software is more reasonably priced, very functional, and lots of free apps. You priced Microsoft apps lately?
