Dealer info stating Canadian Volt pricing!!

To interested Canadians,

I've got feelers out to a dozen dealers in my area, and one has written me just an hour ago that they've been told by GM what the Canadian price will be.

"GM just told us the Volt will be $41,545.00 plus $1450.00 shipping and will be a 2012 model. It is not yet orderable but will be before too long."

If there are any GM employees reading this forum....can you confirm?

And....perhaps more importantly to me, can anyone provide hard data what the lease rate will be? The US rate was highly attractive and if similar in Canada I'm thinking it will be the best way to go for me - since a 3 year lease means I STILL get to claim the full Ontario Electric Vehicle Incentive Program rebate of $8250.

Volt should do well in Ontario but also should be strong in B.C. and Quebec too. Great pricing to get it moving. Strength of the CDN dollar is helping a lot. Helps the US exports by selling outward to other countries too. I hope GM sells 10,000 into Canada for the 2012 model year. Gas prices up there must be making a lot of folks consider the Volt, EVs and econo-boxes.

BTW - what is the cost per kWh of electricity there?

Bonaire, I'm in Ottawa, Ontario, and electricity rates are presently in flux since by the end of this year the whole city is supposed to be on time-of-use rates. And those rates are MAYBE going to be adjusted to have lower off-peak pricing since it's generally considered to not be attractive enough to motivate consumers to time shift their consumption. But to answer your question, the off-peak rate is currently $0.116 (taxes, etc, all in).

In Ontario, electricity generally comes from environmentally friendly sources - primary hydro-electric and then secondarily nuclear. Only a small portion comes from coal fired plants - and even those (I think) are scheduled to be shut down soon-ish. So driving a Volt in Ontario is truly an environmentally good choice. My understanding is that in places like California, almost all electricity comes from coal fired plants. So using electricity from coal reduces American dependence on oil from foreign countries.....but really doesn't do a whole lot as far as reducing the OVERALL carbon footprint of driving. I guess other US states make use of greater percentages of electricity derived from better environmental choices....but my reading indicates California is really quite awful that way.

Excellent. And, off-peak of 0.059 (is that full price or generation-only price?) is really good. If 0.059 is "after all the taxes added and such" - then I'd say Volt is the right car for the area. Hydro is my history as well as I grew up within walking distance of the Niagara power projects.

Ottawa is great. I have a friend up there (lived in Kemptville) and I enjoyed visiting the area a few times. And, we're sorry for the eye-sore that is the embassy building :-)

Bonaire, sorry, further clarification on our electricity price (I've edited my above post to correct it), but I should have included tax (and the various 'other' charges that are per kW/h). Factoring everything in (and averaging between summer/winter price structure) we pay $0.116 per kW/h.

Do keep in mind that some things that are standard in the 2011 Volt (most notably the full featured infotainment unit) are options in the 2012 Volt. Until the options and options pricing are announced it'll be difficult to do a direct price comparison.

That said, I'm expecting a 2012 Volt with equivalent features of a 2011 Volt (plus keyless entry :-) will probably cost a bit more $US than the 2011 Volt did. How much a "bit" is will be the debate until then.

$.116 is still very good. My out of pocket kWh costs in my area (eastern Pennsylvania) are going to be $0.17+ during summer months.

Summer rates here are on the grand fathered TOU rates:
Mon-Fri 9AM to 9PM = $0.17866 Kwh
Mon-Fri 9PM to 9AM and weekends all day = $0.05774

There are other TOU plans but for us so far this is the one we are holding.
