Default Problem with Charge port door

I'm not sure if this is the right place for this thread, please move as appropriate.

I have been having some trouble with my charge port door. On at least two occasions I know for certain that I closed it, but then when I went to start the car I got the door open warning. It could just be I wasn't closing it hard enough or it wasn't fully latching I don't know.

Then yesterday on my drive home, I suddenly got the warning several miles into my drive. So it was closed or at least registered as closed when the vehicle started and the first part of my trip but then came open. I pulled over and sure enough it was wide open and I reclosed it.

    Has anyone else noticed this?

Unrelated issue I am getting "chafing" on the center console from the top of the seatbelt buckle. Is anyone seeing this and/or is there an easy fix?

Only time I have had the warning is when I did not shut the door. Never had any other incedents. I do make sure to push it intill I feel it positively latch.

Press the door in the center to close. You may have to push a little harder to ensure the door is latch. The door has a harder time closing at the rear edge of the door.

I had the same issue several times until I realized this door requires a harder push than what you would normally assume.
After I started pushing harder the problem disappeared.

I had an issue early on where my charge door wouldn't even latch most of the time. Turned out the locking pin was getting restricted by friction. Some lube at the dealership cured it, and it continues to be fine. Something to check, make sure the locking pin can fully deploy with no noticeable friction.

Interesting test video. The charge port door test starts about 0:49

Same thing happened to me the other day; only happened once unless some of those other times I assumed I simply didn't close the door I actually closed it too lightly.
The other day, I remember closing it before I left (too lightly though), and almost 2 miles into the trip it popped open. Didn't have an opportunity to close it until a red light where I was almost at my destination 5 miles away. I felt embarrassed having to jump out of the car at a red light to close the charge door while the driver of a Prius to my left watched.
I can almost imaging what was going through their head . . . 'stupid plug in Volt driver forgot to close his charge door'

I have seen many vehicles with the gas filler door open while traveling on highways at high speeds (60 to 65 MPH). Some of those cars have a manual release system operated from inside the cabin, so I believe that they were at full service stations and never left their seats to fill up, but the attendant left the doors open. If you fill up yourself, you are more conscious to put the filler cap on and close the door. These same opened filler door vehicles may have no locking filler cap, so they can also loose the cap if the attendant didn't tighten it, and lose fuel due to evaporation (also may become a fire hazard).

I strongly recommend that everyone check their gas caps and filler doors every time they approach their vehicles, and be sure that the gas caps are on tight and the doors are well closed.

Because the gas tank is pressurized you can bet they have sensors on the pressure. I think the car would let you know!

Yeah, you really do have to push it like you mean it to get it to latch. Thanks for the good tip volt11.
