Good results so far - a general balance off four options, with a bit of a peak of Democrat.

I'm almost to the point of "none of the above" and would consider myself more of a progressive libertarian but it's hard to determine what that would include. I guess it would be doing what is best for humanity and at times, that means limiting government to the basics aspects that it was founded under.

Unapologetic, cigar chomping, armed to the teeth, fatigue wearing, flame throwing socialist revolutionary! The Volt is the car Che would drive. Bwahahahaha!

Just kidding. I'm just a plain New Deal liberal of the Roosevelt variety. Government is only as bad as we the people allow it to be. Transnational and accountable to noone "too big to fail" corporations on the other hand...

btw: I don't consider "Government Motors" to be an insult. We are the government. Of, for and by the people.

A government that just bought nearly a billion rounds of hollow point ammo for "civilian agencies" and who arms the police with assault weapons and vehicles is just as bad as it wants to be, no matter what we want. See - bailout banks, but not the people, using the people's money to do it, for just one example. Your vote matters is pure BS, sorry. Both clowns chosen by people who prefer not to be named, but note - that last one didn't really do much in the way of hope and change, did he. Gitmo - still there. Deficit cut in half, don't make me laugh. NDAA enacted, patriot act renewed. All important, utterly broken, promises. But to be fair, it would have been the same had the other clown gotten in. The real picture:

I'm not apolitical, I'm anti-political. It's a show to distract everyone from the real power.

Why do we independents have to lean? I stand straight, tall and proud as an independent, with a near perfect voting record -- I've voted for 20+ years and in any state/national election have only twice voted for someone that won -- and one of those was running unopposed. I even do plenty of write in's with "None of the Above". I go to vote mostly for the local stuff where my vote does matter (though I don't think I've ever voted in a race decided by 1), i would had to be the deciding loosing vote in a local issues. The national elections are about media buys of people that don't do their homework and agendas to wield power, not help people.

Libertarian is "Independent leaning right." I've never met a fellow Libertarian who leaned left, and I have quite a few Libertarian friends and family who refuse to identify as a Republican.

    How do you do?

One of the issues I have with Libertarianism in purest form: it can turn a blind eye to the externalized and societal costs of de-regulation and cutting of "entitlements".

Also, if "leaning right" means incorporating any faith-based doctrine into policy, then I believe that in itself is straying further from libertarianism that would be subscribing to select, well tested regulation and/or government assistance.

I can say, learning about EVs over the years, and now owning a Volt has definitely made me more conservative than I ever thought I would be. For example, after 20 years of almost exclusively owning Hondas and Toyota (with a few brief dissappointing Saturns)I don't think I could ever buy another foreign car.

I would say that a Libertarian who doesn't lean both left and right would be a hypocrite. By disavowing certain conservative strongholds like corporate welfare and state-encouraged-religion, they are leaning left. By disavowing certain liberal strongholds such as state-regulation of corporations and social-support programs for individuals, they are leaning right.

Personally, I think that a true Libertarian is a bit naive, unless they actually do support and believe in anarchy. As a society, we've seen time and time again that corporations are not noble enough to operate without at least some regulation and individuals, no matter how hard they work, sometimes need a safety net to fall back on (and they shouldn't have to devote themselves to a religion in which they don't believe in order to receive that support).

I hate to say this, as I personally subscribe to many Libertarian ideals, but in a wholly-Libertarian world, life would be nasty, brutish, and short.

Agreed. But I would argue that the modern conservative movement epitomized by the Tea Party is not much different. The Reagan and Goldwater visions seem downright liberal compared to the Republican party of today.

What I also find funny is that 8 out of the 10 states with the highest percentage of people who don't pay income taxes are reliable Republican red states: Mississippi (45%), Georgia (41%), Arkansas (41%), Alabama (40%), South Carolina (40%), Louisiana (39%), Texas (39%), and Idaho (39%). The other two are New Mexico (40%) and Florida (39%). Most, if not all, are going to vote for Romney, which is against their economic interests. And a lot of the blue states with wealthy people who pay income taxes are going to vote for Obama, who will thank them by raising their taxes!

I'm really more of an independent with hard right views on some issues, far-left views on others, and Libertarian views on everything else. But for the purpose of this poll, I selected Left-leaning Independent.
