Default Poll: Volt buyer political leanings

    Chevy Volt donkaphant.jpg
Without getting into a specific political discussion, I would like to know the general political leanings of Volt buyers. There seems to be some strong anti-Volt sentiment out there that seems rooted more in the political situation rather than the car itself.

I hope the poll will show that Volt buyers come from all sorts of backgrounds and political affiliations. I also would hope this thread avoids any overt political discussion. There are lots of places on the internet to engage in that sort of discussion and I'd prefer this thread to stay above the fray.

    Tell me about it!

I live in Obama-hating country. That's ok, but the only problem is that everyone around here assumes the Volt is an Obama car. I tell them that he wants to take credit for it, but he can't, and if they don't like Obama, then they better not let him take credit where credit isn't due. I explain to them that GM announced the Volt's 2010 release in 2006, so how could it be an Obama creation? Then they tell me that it's an Obama car because he bailed out GM. Then I tell them that they're driving an Obama Cadillac. Then they shut up, but still think the Volt is an Obama car.

Right leaning independent here. I watch and dvr glenn beck regularly but don't agree with EVERYTHING he says, particularly on the Volt (which he like much of the right wing media GOT WRONG vis a vis when the motor actually applies power directly to the wheels).

Even if he doesn't stand a chance in the general election, just to stir things up a bit, I've already got a magnetized Donald Trump 2012 bumper magnet to put on my Volt alongside the "Support Our Troops" magnet that I already have. Perhaps that gives you an idea where I'm coming from....oh and I drive it and that those magnets almost daily past the Washington, Jefferson, and Lincoln Memorials, as well as the White House, State Dept and various other institutions as my work takes me through DC almost every day. I do hope that from time to time that there will be people "in the loop" (I'm not one of them) that see my electric Volt, the message its bumper stickers convey, and "get it".

This idea that Volt-owners are soft hearted socialist greenies is load of bravo sierra, in my book.

I did show the car to a co-worker who is a staunch conservative Republican and I think had some preconceived notions as well, but those got turned on their head after seeing the car and hearing I'm getting 170+mpg over the course of 1000 miles. The next day he was telling people at work that my Volt was "sweeeeeeeeeeeeet." He was even doing the math in his head to determine whether it made sense for him. The problem is almost all these guys that bash the Volt for political reasons haven't stopped for a minute to think it through. They're just regurgitating what the right wing media is spoon feeding them.

Libertarian too, so I voted Right-leaning Independent. Of course I agree more with left leaning people when it comes to energy conservation, renewable energy, and social issues.

I agree with you on the political discussion, but I'm not too optimistic, LOL.

I have to agree our past does not bear out this hope too much. We can get into politics much to easy. But, so far the poll seems to show that we come from a pretty broad area when it comes to our politics. If we vote in the poll without getting into the politics of it, it could be an interesting poll to watch. Here's hoping, anyway.

    Fiscal conservative, social issue progressive.

The Volt is perfect emotional red meat for the haters as it involves unions, government bailout, oil, tax credits, alternative energy, and CAFE standards. Stir in some rigged "reviews" and false headlines and we are off to the races.

Republican, used to be Democrat. Re-registered as Republican to vote against Obama, but had been voting conservative for many years anyway.
