I leave my charge cord plugged in when not in use. No problems. It does use a few watts of power for the electronics and green status lights. A good reason to leave it plugged in is to keep the flashlight on the charge handle ready to use.
It can be left plugged in. It will draw 5 watts even when not charging, during charging it draws 1440 watts.

I unplug mine just to get rid of the "parasitic" curent draw. The 240 Voltec charger is hard wired, so it can't be turned off. I cringe every time I see those LEDs glowing, LOL.
It would be best to contact SPX or Columb, depending on the supplier of the charger to find the draw when not charging.

OOps, It appears that I spoke too soon. My 120v Charger seems to have failed. I went to unplug this morning and the device was dead. I had an attached 20 amp breaker in the socket that seemed to have tripped, but when I reset it the Charger went into a loop. First all the lights went on as normal, then the top two turned red and the unit shut off. then the whole thing started all over again, all green, two red, then off. Over and over until I unplugged it. I removed the little breaker I got from Home Depot, But no luck...same results.
I pulled the charger out and tried several other plugs. No change, same loop over and over until I unplug it. I'm calling my Advisor back in the morning. For now though, it's back to Gasoline....Curse you Lord Humongus..

When the 120 volt charge cord goes into continuous test mode, it may have overheated. The work around that worked for me was to unplug it and let it stay unplugged for about 30 minutes. Once it cools down it may work again.
Contact your Chevrolet dealer about your charge cord problems and request a replacement.
Is the plug it's plugged into GFCI protected? If it's the same fault I've been seeing, it'll trip a GFCI circuit protector.
Picked up my #6 EVSE today, which they tell me has a redesigned power supply. This one I'm to *only* use at work, to see if (and how long) it survives.
