I'm really worried about the Florida sun cooking the batteries in my volt during the summers. Has anyone bought a car cover for their volt yet? I'd like to cover mine in the parking lot at work.

I'd get this one:

I checked around a few places for a cover made for the Volt (mirror and antenna pockets, able to charge the car while covered). The only one I found was GM's, cited by Scott above. It's a nice, tight fit, so it won't flap around much in the wind, with good elastic (at least until it stretches out, or fatigues in the sun!). I can vouch for the cover's ability to shed water (though don't know about a good Florida thunderstorm-borne downpour!).

I also bought the one from GM. I got it as an LPO with the car. I thought the $350 was a little expensive, but I included it in the price of the vehicle. I have not put it on the Volt yet.

I've been covering cars down here for years. You might google the name BUDGE, and look at a number of different sizes. If I recall they offer a "patch with pre-cut hole" that can be placed over an antenna hole you can puncture into the fabric. They offer water resistant, and water proof covers. I have a 'water proof' cover for my collector car (www.mybatcar.com ) and I think it cost about 75.00 .
I used to cover a corvette and would sometimes return to the car shortly after a rain shower with it's soaking wet cover. A large Glad plastic Garbage bag folded in the car that I could open and put the wet cover until I got home and spread the cover to dry really did the trick, otherwise a lot of water will drip off the cover and into your car !
So don't forget to include a large durable plastic bag.......

My LPO order was made with the order on 12/2/10 and finalized on 1/13/11. Allen first posted 2/5/11, so I couldn't get the cover from Tonkin. I have since ordered floor mats, cargo mat, and window shade from Allen (on the UPS delivery truck for today). But, yes, you can now get the cover from Tonkin at 23% discount, plus shipping. I paid $350 with free shipping (early adopter syndrome). From now on, LPOs are mostly not a good deal.

My concern would be the ambient air around the car at ground level. Even if covered, could the asphalt air affect the low-placement of the battery? Best solution is shade. A large shade tree or car-port (or garage) would be the best solution in FL.
Customers can order a vehicle cover as well as a number of other accessories such as a cargo net, sunshade, a rear storage barrier. This can be done through any participating Volt dealer.

Yep, I always seek out the shady spots whenever possible, but so many do the same that the spots are a premium. The cover will give a bit of shade directly under the car during the hottest time of day when sun is directly overhead, just as the car by itself will do. The cover keeps the interior a lot cooler which is a big help.
The cover in the picture fits on my car that is 19 feet long and 7 feet wide, and is waterproof. It does not remain on the car while in the garage, only shown as an example of the Budge Wterproof Cover.
