The problem does appear to happen with lots of different cars, particularly GM like the Volt and Cruze, but also with Jeeps and some Fords. It does seem limited to the most recent HTC phones, like the Thunderbolt and the Inspire, and I believe it is because it has a newer bluetooth chipset than other phones. My Thunderbolt works fine in my Volvo, but I have the exact same problem as other Thunderbolt and Inspire owners with my Volt. My previous phone, Motorola Droid, worked fine.

I'm pretty sure that if either Chevy or HTC updated their software, it would be fine. I, like many people, have registered my complaint with GM, and with HTC customer support. Hopefully it will be resolved soon.

    Thanks!

I have a T-Mobile, HTC myTouch 4G [Android 2.2] as well as a Verison BBerry and have not (yet) had any trouble with either of them pairing BT or keeping their pair.

Neither of those have the newest bt chipset like the ones found in the Thudnerbolt and Inspire. You should be fine. My original Droid and my wife's iphone are fine as well. The problem seems limited to the newest generation of HTC phones.

Digging up an old thread, but I recently started having problems.

I paired my HTC EVO 4G Android v2.2 right away when I got the car. No problems. Then I ugraded to Gingerbread v2.3.3 when it became available for my phone. Ever since then, I have the OP problem. Connects fine, but when I try to place a call, the bluetooth connection is lost. Sometimes, when trying to use the phonebook, the connection gets lost as well. It's so unreliable I can't use it anymore.

I don't know if it was the upgrade, or just a coincidence. Would be nice if I could get it fixed again.

EDIT: I tried unpairing the phone (deleting entries in both the phone and the car), and re-pairing. No joy. Rebooted the phone, still no joy. It just constantly connects and disconnects.

Similar issue... I have a new HTC Thunderbolt (Android 2.2.1) that is paired with the Volt, but it keeps disconnecting and reconnecting. Unusable. I had no problem with my Blackberry Torch -- used that for 4 months with the Volt with no problems at all.

As others have suggested, I unpaired the phone and deleted the phone from the car, re-paired, and when the phone prompted me that the car wanted phonebook access, I checked the "always" checkbox and clicked Decline. I got prompted 3 or four more times, and I declined checking "always" on all of them. Bluetooth then stayed connected. The weird thing is, the phone book still showed up on the Volt's screen, although the last entry in my phone book ("Volt Advisor") did not show up in the list.

Thinking that maybe the Gingerbread minor update I applied this morning fixed the problem, I unpaired/deleted, and re-paired, and this time I allowed phonebook access, checking the "always" checkbox. After pairing, bluetooth kept connecting/disconnecting again.

I repeated the unpairing/deleting once again, and declined phonebook with "always" checked. Bluetooth worked fine.

So, I guess I have the same problem as others, that when the phonebook transfer is enabled, the bluetooth connection is unreliable. It still baffles me that even though I deny phonebook access, it seems to get all of them except the last one.

From what others have said, this sound like an HTC problem.

I just wanted to add to this thread my experience. I took delivery of my Volt in December of last year. I paired my EVO 4G from Sprint at that time and had ZERO issues with bluetooth. It worked perfectly for 5 1/2 months or so. It was running Android 2.2.

A couple of weeks ago, Sprint sent out an OTA update that brought the handset up to Android 2.3 (Gingerbread). Ever since then I have the problem described above, phone connects, then disconnects, then reconnects. It is completely unusable. I've had the same phone, and the same car. The only thing that has changed is Android 2.2 -> 2.3. Now, that update also included a "Radio Firmware Upgrade", that is independent of the OS. So it could be that firmware upgrade or the Android update I suppose.

I'm going to try the "deny phonebook" hack as well as try rooting my phone (when an exploit is discovered) and try a different OS variant and report back my findings.

Tried the "no access to phone book" work around mentioned above, no joy. Same thing.

Go into the bluetooth menu (via the config button) on the center stack of the Volt, find the "Connect" menu. Try that and see if it sticks.

Update to my situation... Chevy has an open technical case for my issue. The dealership then called and thinks they have a solution. I'm going there today to see what they can do for me.
HTC was no help... They told me to do a hard reset on my phone. Not interested in that overly aggressive move.
