One of the really cool things about the Volt is the MyLink app that let's you remote start, un/lock doors, etc. from an iPhone. The fact that it has to do this through OnStar is a bit of a pain because the time latency for commands to go from your phone, up to OnStar and then to the car is quite long. I can understand the delay, but it would sure be nice if GM one day added a private wifi net to the car when you're in close enough range to communicate with it.

But the thing that reeeeeally yanks my chain is this: if we have to go through OnStar to control the car, why the heck doesn't OnStar give us the ability to get the lat/long of the car so we can see where it is on the map? This would be an awesome feature that essentially would give every owner a free LoJack ability as well as a way to track your car when you loan it out.

The data is there. Why don't they give this to us? Is it a privacy issue? Or is this going to come in as a feature upgrade from OnStar in the future?
