Default Popping Sound - In the Shop Tonight!

Okay...breathe deep...it's the first night for me without my Volt warmly charging in the garage...things will be ok...

Ever since I've had my Volt (since February) when I come to a stop I hear a sort-of "popping" sound from the right side of the car. Some days it's louder, some days it's quieter. Of course you have to have the radio off to hear it. There are many days when I drive in silent mode and I want to just relax and enjoy the ride.

I've since discovered that if I creep down the street at 3-4 miles per hour I can hear the same sound. Moving above that speed and the popping goes away. So it doesn't seem like it's the brakes, or at least the application of them.

Anybody else experience a popping or creaking sound like this?

I know it's not a big deal but what the heck, if they're going to promise me silence then I want to be able to enjoy it! So we'll see what they come up with tomorrow. Fortuneately I was able to demonstrate it to the technician.

I also asked them to check if there are any software updates for the infotainment system. There are a handful of small bugs I've seen over the last few weeks.

I have this occasionally but attributed it to the hydraulics for the breaks. Only seems to happen when fully pressing them to completely stop and then after releasing. I'd be interested to see what the dealer says. Keep us posted!

I hear the same thing with mine after shutting the car off.
I assume it is either electirical relays shutting or opening or possibly some air bubbles that need to get purged out of the cooling system, as they gurgle

I hear a single pop when I engage the parking brake. It accompanies the normal vooom sound of the hydraulics engaging. I just started hearing it about a week ago and have now had the car for 10 weeks.

Argh!!!!! Well I just heard from the dealer. They hear the sound and have contacted the Volt technical support people who are still deciding whether or not to come out and listen to it, maybe tomorrow. I'm not going to leave the car overnight again until I'm sure they are actually going to do something. So, sigh, I'll pick the car up tonight. And there were no software upgrades to install either. Bummer.

Update: Ok, the car is back. The dealer had driven it for 14 miles during the day. When I asked the service advisor if they had really driven it that far he said they had because they had some sort of sound sensor they were using to find the location of the noise. When I asked him if they had an idea of where the sound was coming from, he told me. "yes, it's coming from the transmission."

    Number719,

What was the outcome of this?

I find the noise very annoying and disconcerting.

I have the occasional same issue when engaging the parking brake and it started happening about a week ago as well. I've had the car for about 4 months now and about 3500 miles. It doesn't happen all the time though.
