Default ICE Starting when preconditioning in extremely cold weather

This is the second day in a row where I've preconditioned and found the engine to be running once I opened my garage. This is with a full charge and the charger still plugged into the wall. There MUST be a temp threshold that allows this to occur. For reference, it was about 10 degrees yesterday and is 1 degree this morning.

Having the engine run in a closed environment is extremely dangerous and can cause carbon monoxide to leak into your house. that just doesn't seem right. Does the owner's manual talk about this?

I know, hence my concern. Though, I have a detatched garage that no one enters but myself. That said, If the only way to precondition when that cold is by having the ICE start, I'd like to see an option that would automatically cancel the remote start request rather than have the engine run to prevent Carbon Monoxide issues like this.

The owner manual does warn of this. Were you charging on 120V?

This has been discussed a bit in some other threads. When the Volt sees a temperature at or below 26F, the ICE will start. It doesn't matter if the Volt is already being driven, or being remote started.

It must be that your garage was less than this temperature during these occurrances.

The good news is it will only run for a few minutes (3?) out of the ten minutes of the remote start cycle.

I read some place several years ago that modern cars, especially those rated PZEV, generate so little carbon monoxide that you can no longer commit suicide by running your car in a closed garage. So from that standpoint it's probably not dangerous. Pretty irritating though, I would imagine.

This is really concerning. Why can't the system just warm the battery with wall power?

Does this happen on 240 as well? Or only on 120?

The amount of electricity required to heat the battery coolant up exceed that available from either 120V or 240V outlets. If I recall correctly, the engine is capable of producing over 50kW of power... The outlets produce less than 10kW

Probably just me but if I asked the car to start I wouldn't be shocked if the engine started.

Completely OT here but do you know when you take delivery of your "hairy-chick magnet"? We're stoked for you.
