    Default The Volt's Snork Sound

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...l?hpid=topnews

Gene Weingarten’s amusing article on his experience with the Volt provides another name for one of the Volt’s peculiarities:

"Most peculiarly, GM has outfitted the turn-signal lever so that if you pull it back toward you, it utters a little bleat to tell unwary pedestrians an otherwise silent car is approaching. Actually, calling this a bleat is unfair to sheep; it's more like someone with a head cold clearing his sinuses."

“Hork snork, it proclaims. Volt driver coming through! “

Is the sound posted anywhere? If not, can someone put in on YouTube.

Don't know about it on YouTube, but the sound is a semi-feeble, fairly friendly "beep beep". I don't think "snork" is an apt description.

The video at the end of this article includes the "chirp" sound made by the Volt when pulling back on the turn signal. Even though the video is dated, the sound is close to what I hear with my Volt:

Thanks, I have seen that video and would not characterize the chattering beep as a snork or nose blow either. Gene Weingarten, while humorous, seems to be more of a fiction author writing for entertainment than an objective observer reporting facts. I suppose his regular readers probably know and expect that. It was an entertaining article.

It's basically an abbreviated, somewhat muted horn noise, similar to the sound you'd get when you hit the remote lock button, or in the Volt's case, when you plug in the charger.

GM includes the sound at the end of their how to video under 'Parking Assist' feature.

FYI there is a 'how to video" on it from here. Scroll down to Volt and click on the "how to videos link".

Just a "fluttering" of the horn. The video said it best, ...it has to be different and quieter, but still sound like a car. Also, "it says 'excuse me' rather than 'get out of the way!.'"
I might have preferred more of a "Star Trek" sound, but this does the trick. I haven't yet used it to say, "Oh, dear autobile operator in fornt of me, are you aware that the light has tiurned green?"
