Default Prediction: Volt will eat up tires

After driving the Volt for one day... I am surprised how sporty it is. It simply begs to go through turns very fast... to conserve momentum and save fuel of course! No but really it corners so well you will find yourself racing through turns which undoubtedly will wear the tires out more quickly.

    Default Goodyear tire warranty

I went to goodyear when I got my volt and purchased the $65 65000 mile tire warranty. I figured that was going to my main cost of maintenance the tires. The first month I drove 775 miles and used 2.6 gallons of gas. I don't know how much electricity I used so I can not figure out my mpg with the total electricity usage.

I'm figuring if I do the 45K miles allowed on my lease, I may need to do one tire replacement during that time.

I love my Volt, but I'm already looking forward to Volt 2.0!

For what the tires are the handling is not bad. I think the weight distribution and lower CoG helps. I haven't pushed it to it's limits as I'm getting used to it. Could certainly use a beefier sway bars which shouldn't adversely affect the ride.

Well of cource tire wear is affected py how you drive, but generaly high gas milliage tires (low rolling resistance tires) have a higher miliage rating, but a lower traction rating.

Tires that grip the road the best generaly wear out faster and waist more gas.

Most car tires are some sort of compromise between cost, traction, handeling, quality, wear and now rolling resistance.

In my 5,000+ miles, I really like the way the Volt handles - and was amazed how well it did in the snow too! I have not seen wear on the tires yet, but this post reminded me that I ought to rotate the tires.

I agree 100%. The Volt drives like a European sport sedan. PLEASE don't change it!!!

The day it gets "mushy" is the day I move on.

The Volt handles amazingly well, the tires start howling as you near the limits, but hang in there pretty well. The Volt reminds me of my previous BMW 3-series in the way it handles and its exceptionally smooth power delivery.
