How much does it cost if it has a $500 rebate? I can install it myself and save the labor.

The link above did not work. Here is a better one: https://www.homecharging.spx.com/vol...x?id=7&menu=14

Some owners have gone with other vendors than SPX, I believe. I'd like to hear their stories and experiences as well.

LIPA (Long Island Power Authority) has a $500 rebate program...almost ready. They have not finished making the application forms yet. If you call 800-692-2626 (use option #2) and give them your name, address and phone, they will contact you when they're ready.

I went to the SPX website and clicked where it said "Recommended Charging Products" and it shows 4 types of chargers: Voltec, Coulomb ChargePoint CT500, Blink (Ecotality), and SPX Charge Station.

I can order the Voltec for $490. It's datasheet says it is a level 2 charger that delivers 3.3kW, 15A max, 208/240v and should use a 20A breaker.
By living in the Austin metropolitan area, I can get the ChargePoint charger for free but I think I have to pay a huge amount for installation. (I want to install it myself if possible). It's datasheet says it is a level 2 charger that delivers 7.2 kW, 30A, 208/240v, and should use a 40A circuit breaker.
I don't think I can get the Blink (Ecotality) or SPX Charge Station.
I thought level 1 charging is either 8 or 12A, 120v, and level 2 is 16A at 240v for the Chevy Volt. Since the Voltec only delivers 15A, would the Coulomb charge the Volt slightly faster at 16A, or maybe much faster at 30A?
I assume I would actually need a different EV to take advantage of higher than 16A charging, but wouldn't that be considered level 3 charging? The datasheet of the Coulomb station calls itself a level 2 charger, not level 3.
The datasheets are available at the SPX link above.

    Default SPX Charger

The Volt is designed with a specific charging rate for 240V chargers. It will not charge any faster with the other higher rated chargers. So get the SPX as it is the most cost affective and easiest to install. One thing should be noted that in some if not all states require a local cut off near the charger. Which could be a enclosed cutoff switch or a sub panel with the 20 amp dual pole breaker. In my case I am installing and exiting 40 amp 240V circuit to a Sub Panel in my garage, this will give me the 20A 240 volt breaker to the Voltec charger and also give me 2 120v 20 amp outlets for my compressor and other tools.

    Default ChargePoint charge station

The CT500 ChargePoint charge station by Coulomb has a couple of interesting quirks to mention.

    1. The 30 amp relay inside makes a loud snap when activated and it hums. Depending on where it is mounted, you might hear the hum in your home. I loosened the mounting bolts to decrease the pressure of the charge station on the drywall to lower the transmission of hum into the house.

    2. If you are charging and press the STOP button, the Volt will not resume a charge schedule until the charge handle is removed from the Volt and reinserted. The OnStar MyLink iPhone app does get fooled and you may think timed charging will restart later, but it will not.
