Thread: Extra L1 EVSE Charger (120V)

Default Extra L1 EVSE Charger (120V)

I currently live in an apartment complex. I doubt I will have a place for Level 2 charging for several years.

I would like the ability to purchase a 2nd level 1 EVSE charger and keep one in the trunk for "away-from-home" charging.

    I can't locate an extra L1 charger at http://www.gmaccessorieszone.com/Chevrolet/2011/Volt/

Does either GM or Nissan (or another third party) sell these chargers? I assume they would be interchangeable.

    Thanks,

GM will, but we don't know when they will ship. I requested one when I ordered my car, but when I took delivery, they said they hadn't received any extras yet.

That is exactly why I got the 240V charger because it would be a pain in the @ss to plug it in every night and back in the trunk and back out at work, ect. ect. I know in some cases like the one mentioned above the 240V isn't an option. Hopefully GM ramps up production on the 120V chargers....

Sorry, This topic was asked already.

    See the following link:
    http://gm-volt.com/forum/showthread....light=mounting

Also WopOnTour has the install instructions from the 120v Charger at:http://gm-volt.com/forum/showthread....6662#post46662
(thank's ChrisC's FAQ for helping me find that)

The 120v Charger is GM Part 20981776 from the posted PDF
This part does not look like it is the GM parts system yet (or at least I can not look it up on the GM parts online stores) (Jan 6th 2010)

The Nissan 120v charger is also 120 volt/12 amp. It is nissan part number: 29690 3NA0A. This is made by panasonic

Clipper Creek also has a 120V Charger/12 amp charger. They appear to be selling it only to OEM as per an email from clipper creek to a
Nissan leaf forum member. Appears to be priced at $995.

A good resource for chargers is at the following link from plug in America:

Great post, thanks rtmey2000! I'll point the FAQ to it. If you learn more, edit it into the post above please.

I somehow neglected to actually put rtmey2000's post in the FAQ. It's in there now.

Does anyone know if the GM 110V EVSE is showing up in the parts system yet?

The ClipperCreek unit is on their web site. They don't appear to sell direct to individuals but there are distributors. As it happens I bought the 240V unit on the same web page last week and had it installed in my garage yesterday. I purchased through http://www.metroplugin.com/ and it drop-shipped from ClipperCreek to me.

As for pricing, I don't know, but the 240 volt unit was $995, I would assume that the 120V unit would be somewhat less than that.
