Nice. My next question would be, what exactly is "ambient LED-based front reading lights" Ambient implies the light is always present, but they call them reading lights. So are their ambient LED-based lights, or just LED-based front reading lights?
Enjoy the rest of your Thanksgiving hodginator!

At night, there is a small, blue hued light in the ceiling liner right above the gear shift (which I assume is LED) that casts a faint blue glow over the center console. This, I believe, is the LED "ambient" lighting referred to in some documentation.
As for the reading & dome (center & rear) and cargo interior lights, I believe these are regular incandescent bulbs from the color/style and, when it gets a little warmer outside, I'm going to open one up and investigate.
I replaced all the incandescent bulbs in my travel trailer to LEDs that are a whiter white (my preference for being able to see items when it's dark) and use far less electricity and many web sites (like www.superbrightleds.com) sell LED replacement bulbs in all sizes/types as "plug & play" replacements for cars.
That said, aside from the faint blue bulb (which I believe is already LED) which is always on at night, the other lights (dome, cargo) are only ever on for brief periods of time and the electrical savings of incandescent v. LED may not be much or ever even worth the extra cost of an LED bulb for that application.
If anybody else had the details on which type of bulbs are used, I'd be eager to know and can then check if LED replacements are readily available.
Yeah. I have a Volt on order, but unfortunately they sure took a lot from the new Prius. If you want to see what it is, just find a friend with a new Prius and check it out. : /
I'm disappointed about the shifter lever being reduced by a half of it's original size, which makes it look really weird in that cavity... but that's a design issue. I wish it would have ambient lighting.![]()
You're right! They do have ambient LED lighting, via a single light blue LED in the ceiling above the shifter. I hadn't even noticed that in my own Volt. I would've liked more than that, but it's better than nothing and looks good!
Thanks for sharing that piece of information.
