I'm from Kansas and have been lurking here for about two years. I've been getting my daily dose of Volt news for some time and now that the launch is upon us, erm, I mean, you fortunate folks in the launch markets , I've decided to jump in the forums and register.
I believe that I was somewhere around the 35,000 range on Lyle's Volt want list when I initially signed up and I look forward to everyone's initial experiences when their Volt's are delivered! Post lots of pictures!
Welcome, Mentat!
I am a relatively new poster, but a long time lurker as yourself. However, I'm about no. 5000 on Lyle's Volt Want List. I am no.1 at my Chevy dealer's waiting list. I placed my order on August 6th and I've been at 3400 in the build cycle for 2 weeks. I've registered on the SGX charger site, but no news yet on a firm delivery date.
I'm excited as well to hear of the CAB's experience of driving the Volts. I bought a manual and have been reading it. If I have a concern, it's in the complexity of this car. Time will tell! I'm cautiously optimistic.
I have been to Kansas many times. It seems as if there are long distances to travel between places. How do you see your use of a volt? AER would appear too short to be of benefit unless you have a short commute. However, CS mode would be of great benefit on those long distance errands.
The Volt sure would look good photographed against those Monument Rocks out west. Or even in Old Dodge City, with all the cowboys. Wait til Gen2 and I'm sure you won't be disappointed.
Regards!
Barry
Ideally I see my use of the Volt as sort of a family tourer. KC and Oklahoma City are roughly the same distance from Wichita (about 2.5 hours) and Denver is about 8 hours. Dallas is about six hours. As far as city commuting, I'm about a couple of miles from work so I would probably be in charge sustaining mode maybe once a week. Commuting around town on weekend errands wouldn't be too bad either.
I called one of the local Chevy dealerships and asked for more information and asked to be put on a waiting list. Hopefully, next spring we will know more about the remaining launch markets.
