The article quotes the CNDRC (Chinese National Development and Reform Commission), they plan to give subsidies to about 4 million purchasers of energy efficient vehicles by 2012.
Just in case this is going to prompt anyone to cry foul about biting into our 10,000 unit run ... Last week's announcement by GM about increasing 2011 production from 10,000 to 15,000 units said the extra 5,000 were going to China and Europe.
There is a good side and a bad side to these exported Volts. The good side is that it opens the market to more Volt sales and better trade balance in favor of the U.S., which it needs. The bad side is that we on the domestic side will have to wait more untill there are enough Volts to comply with all interested buyers. But if ther demand is high, GM might open up another assembly plant, which is excellent news for GM workers and for the American economy. I sure hope the China sales will help overcome the very large trade imbalance between China and the U.S., and make the dollar stronger.
