Is the OnStar smartphone app for the Volt available for all Android OS phones, or just the Motorola Droid? It ought not be tied to a specific phone given the short life cycles of cell phones.
Dear GM: I have an Android phone that is less than a year old, with a 528 MHz CPU and running Android 2.1. Please make sure your Volt app works on 2.1 platforms and is at least minimally usable on a mid-range phone like mine (the Sprint HTC Hero). If you require a 600 MHz CPU or Android 2.2, you'll be locking out a lot of people.
Just a preemptive request, while there's still time to fix it if you were heading down the "Droid or newer" path.
GM has said that it's going to be available for iPhone, iPod Touch, and Motorola Droid. I'm assuming the latter mention of "Droid" will generalize to "Android", as I don't think they have any particular binding exclusivity agreements with Motorola. It would be a disappointment for me if they did. There's a whole world of Android devices out there beyond the Droid-branded products.
Assuming ANdroid not just Droid, I'm just requesting that they make the app work with Android 2.1, don't require 2.2. Thank you
