GM deal in place, Hitachi works on battery with 50% more power
Must be for the new BAS + system, hopefully GM will have some low cost hybrids again.
power or energy?
It is power.
The Gen2 BAS+ system (used in China only at this time) use a cylindrical cell I believe from LG

who needs more power?
the Volt can go 100 mph on battery
Power becomes important as you decrease the size of the pack...say for a hybrid with a small AER and a small ICE. It's easier to get both energy and power from a large pack but that you typically have to choose one or the other when you get down to a lower number of cells.
Higher power means that you could wire the pack for max. energy and still have the power of a series oriented configuration.
So, any advances in energy capacity or power are welcomed IMO.
