Confusion about Chevrolet.com Online Tracking Tool

Dear GM, Chevrolet & Angie:

On 9/15, I checked my Volt order status at www.chevrolet.com/ordertracking/
Everything appeared correct, and was provided this explanatory note:
"Final order documentation is on its way to the factory, where the assembly line is being prepped, materials are being ordered and production is being scheduled. Once in production, your vehicle will continue down the assembly line where it will receive the quality manufacturing that makes it a Chevrolet. Check back soon to view your vehicle’s most recent status."

Yet today I checked, 9/17, and found a different note which seems to say that my order with my dealer is not part of the dealer's initial allocation [contrary to my dealer's statements to me.] This note reads:
"Congratulations on placing an order for your new Chevrolet. Your dealer has received an order number from Chevrolet. Once your dealer has an available production slot, your order will be scheduled for production. You can sign back in at any time to see your vehicle’s progress or click on the accessories area below to further make this vehicle your very own."

These inconsistent messages are confusing. I like the first message. I don't like the second.

Please explain what is really going on.
Thanks.

I Feel Your Pain

I know what you mean. I never made it to the exalted status of "Vehicle Being Produced" tab, much less the "Vehicle at Dealer" tab so I don't really know the feelings of being demoted to the lowly "Vehicle Ordered" tab. Nevertheless the pain is there. Sorry. The upside to this is you get to be excited about moving to the "Vehicle Being Produced" tab all over again at some point in the future. Something to look forward to.:)

me too

I suspect that this system is still suffering birth pangs. My order shows the same thing as yours. Also, the car is supposed to be the color that you ordered and supposed to allow you to see it from any angle (360degrees). I'd say that it is a work in progress and we are Beta testers even though there is no "warning" of such. Seems like patience is what is needed.

Allocations today!

As I understand it, GM will enter Volt orders in accord with Dealer Allocations. If a dealer got 5 allocations, and you're number 10, you'll have to wait a while. If you're among the early allocations, you should see your order's progress. My dealer says that I'm number 1 in his allocation, so we'll see how true this is.

Same thing happened to me!

I also had vehicle being produced last week, then this week I checked and I was dropped back to waiting for slot for dealer to be opened!
I am hoping this is a glitch! I made phone calls to Chevy but did get a good answer.
Kinda frustrated

Are you guys all in launch markets?

Perhaps your dealers allocations changed? Also, as I understand it, there is a subset of the initial launch markets that will actually get the first cars (prior to the end of 2010)

From Press Release:
"The retail launch in Texas and New York will begin with Austin and New York City in late 2010. The balance of Texas and New York, as well as New Jersey and Connecticut, are scheduled to begin receiving Volts in early 2011."

I ordered in CT, and my status used to say "Vehicle Being Produced" but recently changed as yours did to "Order Placed". I assume(d) the dropping back for me is/was due to what was stated in the release.

I think all the confusion is simply a bug in the initial rollout of the website. The display widget didn't display the correct order progess to match the Order Status Code 1100, which is where mine has been since the order was placed. The bug was corrected, and my order progress dropped back to "Order Placed".

As I understand it, GM goes through a reconciliation process once a month, which I believe happens either this week or next, at which time we might see some moves in the status codes (and consequently the order progress display on Chevrolet.com).

Just speculation on my part, but that's what we do here...

More on order status

I just posted in "order placed" thread, in case I forget something. First, it appears that the Camero tracking site is a little bit more accurate, though not quite as elegant. For one thing, it will send you emails whenever the status changes. For another thing, orders that are early in the cycle (like 1100's) will get updated just once a week, on Wednesdays. For another thing there is a blog attached to this site with questions and answers from Chevy specialists. There are also a few other cool pages (see the blogs) like one to let you view your window sticker and one to tell you how many other vehicles have been built just like yours. Try: www.camarotracking.com
