    Default Canadian Availability Plan?

    Hey folks,

I haven't been here in quite a while. I don't know if I should ask these questions in this section or somewhere else.

It is good to hear about the pricing and being able to finally order the vehicle in the USA.

What is happening in Canada? What are the plans?

Is there anyone that knows anything about the expected launch in Canada?
Is there a timeframe for launch in Canada?
Will it be a limited launch in certain areas or will any dealership be able to order one?
Are they currently enrolling dealerships and service departments like they were/are in the USA?
Will the Volt be available in Canada in 2011? 2012? or later?

    Thanks!
Research is what I'm doing when I don't know what I'm doing!

Default a little info on Canadian plans

    Hi from Ontario!

My local dealer, Budds' Oakville Chevrolet, sent me an email last week with some additional information. I had dropped in a few weeks ago to express my interest in the Volt, and the sales rep I talked to has been researching and staying on top of the news. This is, in part, what he sent me:

"Volt begins production for select US markets later this year. To ensure a high quality launch, initial production volumes will be limited. As a result, Chevrolet will introduce the Volt using a phased target market approach and will add markets as production increases. GM Canada will receive our initial units next Summer (as 2012 MY vehicles)."

There was nothing about pricing or volume, only an invitation to sign up at www.chevrolet.ca.

It's not much, but time will reveal all!

    P.S.
The day before the price announcement, I posted that I would be surprised if the Canadian price was under CA$40k, and was voted down for that. Now that we know the US$ price, and also knowing that we Canadians typically pay 10-20% more for our cars than do our American friends, we can only expect that when the Volt makes it to us in a year, we should expect it to be priced closer to CA$50k. That will be awfully hard to justify to my wife, even if we win the big one!

Very good information. I appreciate that.

I haven't been to my local dealer yet to discuss anything because there is just too little information and it is still way out into the future, it seems.

The price seems like it will be the biggest issue. I'm hoping the Volt will have some attractive lease offers like in the USA. A $400 lease would be ideal.

I wonder if the Canadian government will offer additional tax credits or rebates?

To add some information to revive this old thread. I've contacted Myers Chevrolet in Ottawa, and they say they expect to see Volts coming in in the July-Nov 2011 time frame (yes, that's a pretty wide window). Pricing will depend on what final incentives turn out to be. The government of Ontario has already pledged these incentives, and is already available on the Tesla Roadster (8500$). The final amount for the Volt remains to be seen, but the dealer said that it can be expected to be in the 35000$ range after the government cash-back. I have a feeling that instead of increasing the price in Canada, they may make some thing optional, like navigation, free Onstar service and the Bose radio.

They cannot place orders yet, but 500$ will reserve your place in line to get one. I'm very tempted to go ahead and do so. I don't think my current car has more than a few years left in her, so the timing is pretty good too.
