Default Next Monday - Fisker Karma in Austin

and I'll be going to get eyes-on. I'll take some pictures and try to share, but my photo hosting service has been bollocksed up for the last 6 months.

Just putting this here as a placeholder.

If anyone is in the area (Austin, Texas), the car will be at Roger Beasley Porsche from 3pm to 8pm on Monday, May 3. Said dealer will be a Fisker dealer when they are ready to sell. I don't mind going up there... what with all the fine Porsches on the lot... Loves me some 997s and 987s!

I might have to upload them to my cloud server, although I'd need to configure apache to serve them up. Hell, I need to learn how to do that stuff anyway.

    Picture Slideshow (click me!)

Today was the day, I got to see a Fisker Karma in the flesh. I have to say the overall impression is that it is a ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL vehicle. 22" wheels, sleek lines and curves, a hint of Aston Martin in the rear quarters. The interior was leather trimmed in a dark/light brown - not my favorite color combo for an interior, but very well done. The instrument cluster is all LCD, with a larger LCD (probably 10") in the center console.

My buddy and I talked to the Fisker representative for a while. He wouldn't tell us the size of the gas tank... still top secret! He did state the target total range on a full charge and tank of gas was 300 miles - 250 on gas. He wouldn't open the hood, either. He said he was allowed to open it at some showings but not others, and it didn't make much sense to him, but he had to do what was directed.

Some interesting things about the car that I noticed: There are two 'fuel' doors, one on each side rear fender - (I didn't get to see under them but I think) one is for gas and one is the charger port.

The engine exhaust port is not at the back of the car! It's actually just to the rear of the front passenger side wheel. There's a picture in the slideshow above.

I looked at the undercarriage, which looked very 'raw'. You could tell this was a preproduction vehicle. However, all of the bodywork and paint were excellent. The only hint of pre-production-ness I noted was at the top corners of the window seals in the door frames - it was not one piece of custom molded trim, it was two pieces with a corner section glued together.

They did park it a little too close to the side of the windowed building it was in - couldn't get any good photos of the car head-on.

The car seemed to me to be about as big as a 5 series BMW. And again, it was ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL. I hope Fisker does well. I can't wait to see the Karma out and about in the US!

I should also say that right before going to see the Fisker, my buddy and I stopped by the Lotus/Bentley/Aston Martin dealer to look at a few cars. The Fisker, IMHO, was 90% as nice as the Astons... And I hold Aston Martin as THE nicest interiors I have EVER seen.
