Unhappy A123 battery pack for Navistar EV truck warrantied for 3 year/60K miles, 8 year life

It will come with a three-year, 60,000-mile warranty, and the battery pack will keep its ability to hold a charge for eight to 10 years, Aubry said.
10-year/150K mile warranty is hard and is not for the faint-hearted, as A123 proves.

Agreed - 10 year life with lets say 75% rated capacity is not easy.

The way I read it, A123 is offering 8 to 10 year life. The DeWalts have been out there for 6 years (or more). So if there is anyone to trust, it would be A123.

I wonder what is keeping their unit variable costs so high.

That's the $64,000 question. $500-$1,000 per kwh is just insane. Those dewaly batteries are so expensive too. I mean you can buy a decent laptop for cheaper than a battery of the same volume.

These are commercial vehicles, and probably the DOD is going to be 80% if not higher (A123 advertises 100% but that is crazy talk). GM has purchased its long life by starting with extra battery capacity and keeping DOD to only 50%.
