Just read an interesting article at HybridCars.com in regards to the characteristics that will be in the BMW i3 Electric. It states that BMW found that the average distance covered by conventional car drivers is 25 miles per day on average. Hey here in sunny So Cal, I drive that one way to work, which would not include driving somewhere for lunch, maybe also later to dinner. Now here is where the article makes no sense. It says that BMW found that their BMW eDrive electric tests found pilot customers charged their vehicle two to three times a week. Hmm. These customers definately do not live in Southern California. It also states that the BMW i3 using the optional range extender will increase the driving range to approximately 186 miles. Let's see, that will take me about 90 miles down the coast, then back to the house unless I want to stop at a gas station to again fill up the tank. Lot's of trips to the gas station, since "I only charge my car two or three times a week." Nope, I think I will stick to the Volt, which I currently have on order and counting the days till I can turn in my gas guzzler.
Since I have owned a number of BMW's I was previously thinking that I should have waited to order the i3, that is untill BMW let this this extended information out of the bag. Now I know I made the right decision. Good Luck BMW. I really believe you have missed the mark, at least here in So Cal.
