\r\n The Solar panel was very dirty. We have major tree pollen the past week.\r\n

\nBest case scenario, keeping it flat like that, would probably be around 10 to charge from empty to full. Anything less than best case scenario would be A LOT longer \r\n

    \r\n \r\n
    \r\n
    \r\n
\nIf 10 perfect days is true, then the additional charge from a perfect day would probably not overcome losses from additional weight and the reduced aerodynamics during my daily commute. The only way to overcome this is probably some sort of contraption like satellites have to open up a much larger folding array of solar panels.\r\n

\r\n I bet flexible PV\'s would work better for aerodynamics and weight. I think those would generate enough to cover my commute to work, which is only 2 miles (0.4\'ish kWh). My car is usually in the sunlight all day.\r\n

\nWith such a short commute, you should just drive it like you stole it and try to at least use 1 kWh.\r\n

\nI\'ve seen his installation, it\'s pretty cool. I believe it\'s not tied into the charging system at all, but powers a separate a/c compressor he mounted (somehow) under the rear bumper. So he basically installed a separate car cooling loop, powered by those two panels. He lives in FL, so his car can keep itself cool all day with no range hit, when it\' sunny. Neat demo, but not very practical...\r\n

\r\n Why don\'t we get that tesla solar roof material and have it able to be folded up and then unfolded and spread out on your driveway or a parking lot where you are going to. The extra surface area could charge your car a lot quicker!\r\n

\r\n I think the folding solar array would have to be quite large (as in, 3 parking spaces large) to generate a noticeable charge. Imagine if wind just tore your folding array off your Volt? Would be cost prohibitive to create a folding array strong enough to withstand wind gusts. Then there\'s the "how high off the ground" to avoid clipping tall people in the eyes. Then think of all the bird poop you\'d have to deal with accumulating on the array, smooshing and rubbing/scratching your array whenever it folded up. Ewwww....\r\n
