I read today in an article about the Shanghai auto Show the claim that the Buick Velite, a rebadged Volt, has an electric-only range of 116 km or 72 miles. Anyone able to explain the basis for the difference from 53 miles (US) to 72 miles (China)?
Same thing happens in Texas. Everything is bigger in Texas.
But steverino is right. I would ignore the EPA ratings anyway and go by the lifetime MPG on the dash. Some people are getting nearly infinite MPG and folks like me w it's a longer than range commute can only squeeze out 70 MPG, still blows away any Prius.
Yes it is a different testing standard and has the same battery pack. My 16 Volt now averages about 62 miles on the guess o meter now that it has warmed up in mixed highway and city driving.
EPA needs to test here in southern Illinois in the spring. They could rate the the Volt at 60+ miles. My GOM bounces between 60 and 65 miles everyday here in FLATLAND Illinois. Kansas would be another good test location as long as there are no winds.
US EPA changed the cycles to account for more aggressive and therefore real world driving for MY17s...Not difficult to get 20% better in most models whether a Volt or an ICE Hellcat...
If they're the same (they might not be) perhaps you could buy them? Best guess is with the silver grills it looks more consistent with chrome headlights...However since the Bolt EV has a dark gray and black grills, probably a safe bet as soon as MY18 the Volt will follow suit with darker grills and who knows, adopt the Velite's black trimmed headlights...
I have to figure China's estimate is also more so based off of a more urban terrain than what the US EPA figures the typical driver will travel (mix between urban to suburbia).
